Been looking for a 6v electric fuel pump relay and searches here only come up with 12v relay.
Will 12v work?

Be sure to instal a safety auto shut off relay or switch. one that stops the pump if engine stops or impact is sensed. This is a very important safety concern in event of a wreck where you are unable to manually shut off the pump. Dont burn alive like a flaming marshmellow!

Just out of curiosity why are you using a relay? I’ve wired all of mine up directly using an ignition switched terminal from the fusebox. They don’t draw that much. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

extra loads on the ignition circuit reduce the voltage to the coil, which adversely effects spark strength. a relay is a good way to prevent this problem.

PO on my 60 ran it direct for years without issues. Just excess wiring to have issues with. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

The biggest issue of running the fuel pump directly off the ignition is what happens in an accident. If you don't (or can't) turn the key off the pump may spray fuel. A proper fuel pump relay has some control mechanism to shut off the pump if the engine isn't running (oil pressure based or ignition pulse based system usually.) This company makes a 6 volt and 12 volt version. _________________

issues...
No safety auto shut off
Less voltage for the coil, thus weaker spark
More load on the ignition switch
The wires to do it right are not excess. Them wires may even save a life.

The object linked by EvFun is perfect for the 6V.
It draws power for pump directly from its +30 terminal, screwed to the battery or the solenoid.
The +15 from ignition switch takes only 100mA as a start signal. |

Should I have highlighted “no issues”? Car ran like a dream and he had it this way for years prior to me converting to 12v.
Auto shutoff is another subject Danger Ranger. I don’t have safety wires either.... _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)
