Well, I have a broken one, so you inspired me to get that out. I’m too cheap to not at least give a try at fixing it myself for free It was stuck and the float didn’t move. It was the one originally in the car. I tried to take it apart but couldn’t get the nut off as the shaft it was on was spinning. So I cut the nut off to get inside. From the shaft spinning it twisted the wire up. I pulled the floats out of both units to compare and stuck them in some fuel. ISP west fuel sender float is floating crooked half sunk I think I have my culprit. The VDO floats perfect.
I did some comparisons on parts. They senders are very similar but all slightly different parts.
You can see the shafts are slightly different with the original having the press marks and the aftermarket uses a nut instead that is not pictured
I put the VDO float on the new sender and it works and actually works in the tank with gas. I think the issue was the new float was sitting half crooked causing it to jam and not go up as well just not floating in general. But now with the VDO float it’s actually reading and the float moves in gas!

Congrats on fixing it. It's also why I don't throw away some old parts.
Nice job on combining new and old to make it work. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Very worthy note right there! Deserving to figure in the Quotes Hall Of Fame.
Great to see the car doing well and all your efforts to maintain it. |

Thanks guys! It’s always an adventure of this car and it’s never left me stranded or having to get a tow, (now wait a few days with my luck )
Saturday I did an oil change and adjusted the rear brakes. One adjuster had seized up and the was fun but there is a lot less pedal travel and ebrake travel so that’s good.
Some more photos from today.

You need to be looking for a ghia or type 34 to fill out the herd. 😁 _________________ "Albatross"! |

Nice collection you're starting. You'll soon find out some of the 71 only stuff quickly enough. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Yeah, my parts car has a good amount of part including the sunroof parts $. Or if I decide to replace my roof I wouldn’t do that though. The faded one is solid enough to be fixed up and we are starting on it next week. It’s name is Susan

Thanks! Only the rotted one is mine but we got the other one back. And we are making another trip up in two weeks he had a nice 78 7 passenger bus with a really nice complete interior and the rust was too bad, no motor trans or title but it’s $200 so the my friend that drove us that didn’t get anything today is buying the bus
Here are some more pics of the pets car. It only has a transmission, no engine, but a title. H4 headlights, and it’s got a good windshield. The doors are almost perfect but the seats are dragging on the ground someone took all the sunroof parts out so it’s only some homemade brakes holding it in place. So we had to ratchet strap it in place for the trip. But all the sunroof parts are in a box in the trunk.

Not much to update on, it rained and washed away the salt so I’ve been driving Joann again. Yesterday I found a major fuel leak in the engine compartment a couple drips a second. I’m pretty sure the rebuilt injectors were leaking. I found two that were leaking. One just was a little wet around it and in the electrical connection and the other was the bad one. On opposite sides of the engine too. The GB Remanufactured injectors that was a rock auto service have been terrible! Don’t use them!!! I got that all fixed by throwing my 50 year old injectors in and all is fine.
Yesterday I also started tearing into the parts car. My friend needs the front axle for his Squareback. The parts car seemed loved at one point, it has a sunroof, rear seat camping hinges, front and rear sway bars, wood panel interior kit, formula-very shift knob, H4 headlights, number guards and a few other accessories. Anyone heard of the story on this car when it was in Minnesota?
Anyone need any parts? Most everything is available that you see except windshield, front axle and a few other little parts.
Then the beetle that’s finally finished _________________ 1964 sunroof Beetle Restoration "Herbie"

I don’t need them, but I saw that you referenced the rear seat camping hinges. I suspect you already know, but those are like hens teeth - almost impossible to find any more, and when they do go up for sale they fetch a pretty penny. Last set I saw for sale on here went for about $500 I think, so if you are looking for some cash I’ll bet you could get a quick sale out of those. Somebody on here might still be looking for a special Christmas gift for themselves! |

I know the camping hinges are rare and expensive but if ya wanna give a blue '71 SB owner a good deal I know a guy
I've teased my wife about camping in the back of the SB and with the hinges that wouldn't be a bunch of blustering
I absolutely don't blame ya if ya put them up for highest bidder though, that would totally pay for your whole trip out there to get the cars and then some I bet.
--edit--
Also, did you wax your paint or anything after polish? It has held up a lot better than mine, I wonder if maybe part of that though is mine has a respray and might be cheaper paint not holding up as well as original. _________________ 71 Squareback, 1.7l T4 w/ crank trigger fuel and spark
