Mrs fxr is delighted with her birthday present - a 45 litre Reimo fresh/grey water tank. The intention is to use it as a fresh water tank when travelling where water is scarce (e.g. Baja) and as a grey water tank when in places where dumping grey water is frowned upon (bear country, some BLM land).

We'd be cleaning it out between trips, and altering some simple plumbing when changing roles. But first - to fit it in place! It is intended to fit between the frame rails on the passenger side. However, on inspection, there are a couple of studs which stop it even locating in place. Are these studs for some other accessory that I haven't come across?

I'll cut them out anyway - but I'd like to know what they were originally intended to do. Smile

More in days to come.

Don’t know use of those studs. They are big!

I had other 1/4” studs I cut off that were located more towards the center of the space. I thought they were holding ac or wiring clamps.

I have a similar water tank that I’m going to mount with flat steel straps. How does yours mount?

Any idea what the plastic is so I can figure out how to modify and glue?

I can only assume you plan on filtering the freshwater feed after using the tank for grey water purposes.

If I recall correctly, others have pointed out that their alignment supports the mounting of a second propane tank...

I have this very same tank under my van at the moment. I use it strictly as a grey water tank (BTW- it's ABS plastic). I have it mounted on the drivers side, towards the rear of the cavity. (For whatever reason, my van has a door track on the left, but no door.)
I fit the tank into place (it's a tight fit), then drilled upwards and used long carriage bolts and big fat washers to bolt it into place.
I would never even consider using it as a fresh water tank. (ABS as opposed to Polyethylene) white plastic....

I'm still working out how I want to mount this. It's obviously designed to have four bolts come through the floor - but I might use straps between the frame members instead.

No idea on the plastic - but if it's OK for potable water in the EU then at least it won't be poisonous!

Regarding fresh water use - we wouldn't be drinking it anyway (we have separate tanks for that) but using it for washing up or the (very) occasional shower. Easy enough to flush out after grey water use.

OK, so the remains of the cut-off studs and two of the welded-on nuts are clear of the tank - but one nut just hits the front round bit on the top of the tank. A heat gun and a small hammer dealt with that. Wink

Now drilling holes for some 4" coach bolts.

To mount these tanks, we use 14" Quick Fists. Works really well.

This mounting idea looks awesome and easier that the others!

Do you think you could share how did you actually attached the Quick Fist clamps to the frame? What hardware did you use? Pictures would be really helpful!

Much much appreciated. Greetings from Chile, south america!

Are you not concerned that rocks or debris will damage the tanks when driving at highway speeds?

These tanks are THICK ABS plastic!
You can wail on it with a hammer till your arm falls off, it won't notice!

Those quickfists will definitely fail before the reimo tank.

The install is a bit tight. Think ahead.

Nice tanks! How are you guys filling them - cutting a big hole in the floor to access the top filler? Or dropping them to fill (can't imagine) and/or filling through the tiny end hoses?

Also - re: the cut-up-tank photo...I assume that tank is upside-down? Or is there that large internal flange around both orange caps? If so, how would you completely drain it?

As to gluing them, if they're ABS plastic then plumber's ABS glue (the yellow stuff) should work, that stuff is wicked and gives you a literal 3 to 5 second working window before it melts the ABS together.

This is a GREY WATER tank. It's where your sink drains to. You can buy a tap to mount for drainage. As for the *two* large lids, mine has only the bottom lid. I use it for cleaning. I have holes drilled for the drain (through the floor). Easy to mount.

I got the 60L as well, with a cap on each side, bc they're built to be used on either side of the van.
The drain from the Westfalia tank feeds into the Reimo tank by gravity, so it's just one big 100L tank in 2.
Pumping is done from the lowest tank (Reimo)
Venting is a 1/2 hose that goes up in the engine vent pilar.

This one is used as a fresh water tank, often holding 115°F water for showers/dishes etc. - it has seen many miles and adventures on and off road since those pics above. The quickfists are still doing their job perfectly and have been in use for about 7 years.

We fill using the hookup box on the side of the van(same hookup box is also the outlet for showers/outdoor water depending on the direction the switch is flipped)

Winter is the only downside to this setup, but I have another one that is now fully insulated and ready to roll with hot water but haven’t gotten to use it yet.
