ive honestly given up at this point on the petals. i drilled the bushing like 4 times large than the original hole. applied pb blaster. heat. a puller. its not comming apart. time for a new one lol

If you're still in the market for a pedal assembly, I recommend this one from aircooled.net:
https://vwparts.aircooled.net/Pedal-Assembly-1965-73-Beetle-Super-Beetle-Ghia-p/113-798-900.htm

I bought the 74 and later version for my 74 beetle I am very happy with the quality and even though it's not pictured there is a grease nipple behind the gas pedal.

You drilled the wrong part!
You could have rifle drilled the clutch pedal shaft with the same drill you used on the clutch pedal. This is one way old valve guides are removed.
This reduces the surface tension holding the parts together and the heat from drilling helps too.

You can still save the rest of the assembly if you drill down the center of the cross shaft to at least the depth of the pedal, step the drill sizes up until the walls are 1-2 mm thick then simply drive it out with a punch.
Then all you're looking for is a good used clutch pedal and a new cross shaft Wink

sorry for the poor picture but if you look closer in the image there is a drilled section where the bushing used to be. the clutch pedal will rotate around the cross shaft tho. the mark ontop of the cross shaft itself looks like a drilled hole but is actually just a punch mark. not unless im missing something. im thinking i will convert to hydraulic clutch and throttle. now it just boils down to choosing one that will A. work, B. wont break the bank.
thanks

Yes, use that punch mark to center your drill bit and "rifle drill" down the center of the cross shaft.
As I suggested drilling out it's center until the walls are 1-2mm thin will weaken the sides and make the pedal come right off.

Got a car cover. Will be painting and welding soon.

Meanwhile, I'm tearing my hair out trying to rid this intake flapper no signal code on my tdi.
I finally fixed the water leaks tho. Which is the reason all my fuses and relays are corroded.

Your supposed to pack these ones? Shocked I thought the bearings are fed oil from the transaxle. If not then out they come Smile somehow... may be time to order a bearing puller or work the grease in best I can from the position they are in now. Thanks

Magnetic drain plugs actually look pretty good as far as metal content goes. They are now bathing in the ultrasonic cleaner.

Today I finished tearing down this 1600 dp. looks like a good runner, its just really filthy. After i clean everything, i will seal everything up, freshen up a few things, and use it for moving my bug around.

When i finish my other engine, I will give this one away to Bugs for Christ. A local group im a part of. I got it for free so i may as well pass it on.

You will be so much more happy with the 1600 DP over the good ole 40 horse. I have driven my 40 hp bug and my dp 1600 Squareback and it’s night and day difference and the 1600 is so much more and puts the 40hp to shame. You will be much happier

And then i cleaned and oiled the con rods. They were a little rusty on the surface but i think i can get away with rubbing some oil in em.

40hp, 0-60 in ??? I think it take 1/2-3/4 of a mile to get to 60 with 40hp. If you live in the country with 55mph speed limits, a 1600cc gets you there a lot faster with 62.5% more power and it will be fun in a lower geared trans in a light car.

Looks good! Is you case painted black?

Are you still planning on doing a big power engine build eventually? Or just stick with the 1600?

Aiden

Check the parting line of the 32 PDSITs. I had to flatten them on mine because they were warped pretty good from someone overtightening the screws.
