I think that handle is a 67 only and it is stainless steel with cast end caps on the hood. The other is pot metal that is chrome for 66 down

Well it turns out that im half decent at body work! considering the only body working tools i own are a hammer and dolly set, and thats it Laughing

I do have 1 issue! There is this stupid high spot. I circled it and wrote around it in one of the pictures. I tried shrinking the metal using a heat gun and water in a spray gun and it helped but not enough.

well ive got the damage looking 96% better but theres still a few minor high spots. maybe i need to shrink the metal more? there also seems to be a large bu very minor low spot towards the bottom of the panel i havent touched yet.

do yall think a shrinking disk will work better than using the heat gun and spray bottle? also, should i be using room temp water or ice water?

It seems to me that you'd get better responses on the forums, although I've also noticed that questions often go unanswered....

I did all the bodywork on my car (engine decisions on 60 ) and then a friend showed up and ran his hand over everything. Thus he proclaimed - THIS IS TERRIBLE ! 😀
I thought it looked really good but I’m not a body man. People who do this kind of work all the time know what to look and feel for. I’ve painted houses for over forty years and can patch a wall but my bonding and blocking skills suck. Part of it is my eyes and lighting. I’ve resigned myself to letting my friend do it.
It seems like you might be a lot younger in which case you may have better eyesight and more drive to finish it out yourself. You Can do it ! 😀

Might help to sand all the paint and rust back to see how much metal you have left.

Displays are for a digital speedometer and fuel guage. Thinking about using or making a custom interface hooked up to an arduino or raspberry pie that allows me to switch between different gauges like oil temp, EGT, A/F, etc.

On the hood I wire wheeled and it's really pitted at the bottom. Maybe if my skills get good enough I can weld on a new nose end.

So far I haven't paid a single person to do any work for me. Maybe it's time I drop the hood off at the body shop and have then fix it lol.

Today i painted the tins, cleaned some stuff up, and fixed a few issues on the engine including the exhaust leak.

Lookin good!

I’m curious how the digital displays will be. How will you get you get the road speed?

Body work just takes for ever and is draining in every way.

For the stripped screws, just weld on a small bolt or something to get it off. On a Philips head, you can take a dremmel to make it flathead. Also, you can put a wrench on some screw drivers to allow more force on it.

I believe that changed happened starting in 1966 because there are also some rectangle button door handles made in that style, not just round button handles. The stainless wrapped parts are superior, IMHO. They don't pit like the cast parts.

Your right about is starting in 66, I have a pair of the rectangle handles that are the wrapped style. They only down side is they can get dented.
