I’m at the point in my build where I’m getting ready for paint. I’m doing the priming and am having it painted at my work. So I’m wondering what order I should prime in or if I should even bother with multiple primers. I’m going Kirker SS for the topcoat. Here’s what I think-
Primer sealer over filler
2k Urethane Primer (Finish 1 FP410)
Acrylic high build (Kirker 1315)
Acrylic Urethane Single Stage paint (Kirker ultra-glo)
A) Does this sound like the right order?
B) The high build is 1K, is that fine and is it necessary?
I may work in a body shop, but I don’t paint anything so I have no idea pretty much what will work and what won’t. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

I’ve used Kirker for the past few paint jobs. I’d recommend not using the FP410 or the 1315 and just use kirkers Perfect Prime. It’s high build and sands easy and it’s a 2k product _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia |

I’ve been using a sealer (reduced epoxy)after sanding the perfectprime just for risk reduction of the various coatings _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia |

I too have used Kirker on many of my builds. Here is what I would do...
1. Enduro prime
2. Apply several coats of perfect prime and let cure
3. Guidecoat and block
4. Seal with reduced Enduro prime (30 min flash time)
5. Apply top coat.
Now I guess you could skip one if you have no exposed metal on your project |
