Well......it is looking more and more like this thing is gonna get turned mid engine like a 550.

Have not had a chance to do much with it......work every day lately.

I did get to check the wheel fitment/backspace/clearance.
The front is tight as expected. I did have to adjust the steering stops, but within stock adjustment range.
The tears did fit to the spring plate, I had measured that. But what I did not expect was the snubber tab next to the upper shock mount......the tire hit that. So I went down one more width size. Down from 225 to a 215/50r17. If I have to I can spacer out a quarter inch.

So the rear tires are bought and the studs and nut nuts.

So....not a lot of progress lately.
I did modify the rear drums for the wheels.

I have gone down the rabbit hole again.
It is definitely going to be mid engine.
Will have to lengthen the back end.

I went and got a klze mazda. 2.5 liter and under 200hp but an 8000 rpm engine in stock form.

Cut it up.
Making a gap in the torsion tube to set the oil pan in.
All that flat plate will eventually become a square tube.
It will have short swing axle springs and long stick out irs spring plates.

I always liked these cars. I remember when they still advertised them. Old kit car adds always suffered from wrong tires and wheels and never lowered. But, I could always visualize the potential. Gotta find one, someday.

Rear section welded out.
A v6 right in the middle of the torsion tube.
It now takes short swing springs but with the long extended outward IRS swing plates.

Suspension bushings and ball joints came in today.

Mocked up one side of the rear.
Too much camber at the height I want.

I suppose I am gonna try the arms upside down before I start bending stuff.

Well...
I put the bushings in and mocked it up better.
And still did not get into alignment.
So the mock up is torn back down and I am bending on the main structure. I have not got it back together to see what I got out of the bending. But I bent into it what I thought I need. Gotta get this piece to where it needs to be before welding everything else to it.

I did make up the motor/trans/mount adapter.

Mocking up parts.
The whole mock up has been back apart and bent on again for alignment.

That is 13 degrees to the axles at full bottom out.

Could have kept a FWD transmission with it and shortened the entire length by about a foot...

Yep....and have the entire suspension and struts and sub frame also.

came very close to doing exactly that.
But......I want a retro racer....like some old euro racer that never existed.

Weight bias will be better the way he has it now. If left in the normal orientation, the added engine weight and the shorter wheel base would made for a very poor handling car

Well.....I had already gotten the front disc brake kit and drop spindles.
I looks like I will go ahead and get the rear disc also to go with the extra rear weight. I have them ordered also some 28mm rear torsions and the 19mm front sway bar.

Hopefully I will not need stiffer front springs also.

Still working on the rear chassis.

Don't hit the "back" button after posting (and seeing your just-posted item), it just repeats your previous posting. Instead, you have to click on the Kit Car / Fiberglass Buggy / 356 Replica header.

Anyone ever convert the Porsche throw out to a VW bearing?

I find reference to it but no specifics
