Working with the front end.
Was unsure of how low it would be.
Naturally I want it low.....but I do not want to drag or make sparks. May have to avoid big bumps ECT....but want to be able to fully bottom out in a corner and not touch the ground.
With only drop spindles and stock shock with bump stops it is down there.
Bottomed out.

If you would have pie cut a 1/2" it right in front of the Napolean's hat you could have got the same caster and dropped the front of the car a couple of inches at the same time. The angle you have the control arms are at now you are going to have next to no travel in the front suspension.

Back up and read it again.
The front on assembled pic is with a six degree head, drop spindles.
And
It is sitting on the bottom out stops.
This is all the way down.....only up movement from here.
The grubs are cut......ride height not set. The angle of the arms are same as original stock at full bottom.
I am working from bottom up.
Just tentatively I was wanting the floor board 2 inches off the pavement at full bottom out ....... But it looks more like I will be around one inch.
I do not want a pan dragger. Cut at the Napoleon hat would have been too low at bottom out.
Just as a side note......that Napoleon hat is probably going away before it is over with......but the head gives me a starting point at least.
Maybe I am going about it all bass akwards.....but it is the way the brain wants to go. _________________

Looks to me like 6° relative to garage floor (assuming floor is level), which would mean 6° overall; plus or minus however much that entire head will be tilted away from level after it's part of the final car. |

Six total.
And of course whatever error in the rest of the fabrication. _________________

A mock up to get some numbers.
Front and rear sub frames......now to make the middle.
And remember.....this is bottomed out..... Only up to go from here.

Finally got a chance to work with it again.
Making those mock up numbers fit together.
And finally have one piece connecting it together.
Was a challenge getting it lined up.
I finally figured out that my front torsion beam had a twist to it.
Not bent....no curl or curve to it....but the top tube not in line with the bottom. I wound up cutting some factory welds and twisting the tubes in line. After that the numbers started working out.

Not much time available for the larger chassis work.
It is going to be a tube chassis.
Have started on the body mount perimeter.
Once the body is where it is going to stay I will start bending tubing around it.

Have worked on some odds and ends when I have a short time.
Mounts to attach the tubing too.
Painted the valve covers.
And made up the pedal assembly.

oh shit!!!! I like that!!!!! I would probably shit can the vw front suspension...rear too and go with something like...pontaic solstice(3/4 scale vette stuff) I may do it to my 356, havent decided yet, and since I already have the car it's eazy to referance off of. or the rear could be from a newer car that has the aluminum arms&1 peice aluminum frame assy that bolts under the car and all suspension attachment points are fixed on it for eaxy bolt on and room for the engine too!!!!( either front engine like your or rear like mine, pleanty of room and better suspension that the vw stuff.much better. |

This is supposed to be a psuedo racer from early 60's
So a lot of yestertech going on here.
Whittling on a pulley to re-route the belt how I need it to be.

So.....
I went with poly seats.
And even most of them were too high off the floor.
With a 3 inch drop to the floor boards the seat bottom is in the useful zone at 1-1/2 inch thick.
The cowl is just that low.
The summit g2100 seat is the lowest-thinnest and most up right sitting I could find.
I do have the original fiberglass shells that came with the body and they are really laid back....that laying on back with knees up to the cowl fit.

I have not gotten much done lately......lots of work in the way.
Off work today for a snow day.
I am way down south and snow/ice/sleet is like a once in 10 year thing. So we don't have the road clearing equipment and the roads just stay frozen over until it melts.
So....no big progress.
After the mock up.... I moved the Napoleon hat back over a quarter inch, moved the tunnel over to match. Then shortened it all an inch in wheelbase.
Of course it is just tack welded together again.
The body set back on it and started fitting in some of my tubing bends

I did find a reference this on the internet but very little detail.
Did find a post saying it was mid engine 550 style and had a 356 engine.

So that is a 205/40 tire....23-1/2 tall.
Drop spindles and adjusters.
Stock length shocks with the rubber bottom out snubbers so I don't over rotate the ball joints and the arms in the stock travel range.... albeit the low end of stock. _________________
