Yet, somehow I always forget something and have to drag my old ass back out to get it. Then, when done, I crawl out just to realize I left everything under the bus Sad.

I got to that point a couple years ago. I woke up one morning with a stiff sore neck that did not go away for 3 months. Turned out I had arthritis in my neck.

It occurred to me that I was still heaving myself under the bus like a sack of potatoes over and over, getting tools, flailing around in the dark and getting up for more tools like I did in my 20's. Now I do what you just described and use a creeper or whatever to support my head plus lots of light.

Ironically, the arthritis flare happened after I stopped working on the bus for the summer and returned to two hours of daily commuting and sitting in an office chair all day.

Yeah, and yay for bondo, pop rivets and whatever keeps your bus rolling if that's the best you can do at the time. The best bus is the one you can drive.

Thats not an axe. Although im not opposed to using one as needed. Its a big brass ball peen hammer.

Slow progress as life keeps getting in the way. Pulled the junk pax door off and started working out old bondo filled dents in the front clip. Will take a little smoothing compound to dress up but nit the 1/2” thick I found in some dents.

Pulled widshield out and although the sill is pretty rusty, not as bad as I expected. No holes to put a finger through. Sand, ospho, all-metal and thats it. Damn P.O. had run a wire up from the battery, to a switch, and a momentary push button, and back to starter. Massive fire hazard. Will replace ignition switch and rewire back to proper.

Switched gears for a break from grinding and put wardrobe back together. Added a couple shelves per Ems request. Time to put it aside and cross it off the list.

Em has been using cardboard boxes to shape up and size her sink cabinet. Set bed foam in place temporarily to get an effective size requirement for what she needs. She has a great idea to build a treasure chest, with foam and matching upholstery that will slide under bed or be stowed behind pax seat when bed is returned to bench mode. More storage and a place to sit. Since the o.g. early model westy sink cabinet is not in that spot, it will make a good spot to use.

Possible color choice. Somewhere in the neptune blue range. With the white over top down to beltline.

It's a great color. Let me know if you are interested.

Also, since you are digging in pretty deep on the bus, you might consider this list I put together of things to do to you "new to you" bus:

Just showed Emily a pic of your bus, her response was “ hell yeah!”. Beautiful color. I think it would look sharp with a white over to the belt line, blue tinted windows, white rims and white bumpers.

Not a good initial report on Emilys motor teardown. Didnt even get the exhaust and heads off and found this.

Looks like i will be using that case from Shinnlinger after all. This is not the answer I was hoping for, but should have been expected.

Well shit. That sucks. I imagine that someday welding cases like this will become more common, but I would be looking for another case too.

That will be fixable. Save that case.

Who can find the thread on the camshaft web vaccine?

Mystery of the aluminum tape looking stuff found in sump solved.

And if it wasnt bad enough, found another rod bearings spun and shredded. One of them locked up the rod to crank so bad, that I had to beat on it with a huge steel drift from the backside, just to get the crank to rotate enough to get the piston off.

One of the rod cap nuts came off with my fingers. Catastrophic lockup.

Valve train looks fairly new. AMC heads, but no cracks, valve burn, or hammer faces on them.

Im guessing this was rebuilt, poorly albeit, and then quickly self destructed due to improper torque or reuse of old cap nuts. Cam is toast with heavy overlap wear.

Off to the junk pile. Will breakdown Shinn motor tomorrow and hope for better inside.

Today was a big day for Crusher. Emily has sanded and filled as much as she could do, and it was now time to make the switch with Henry. Before we trailered it over to Ryans for the metal work, we put it in the air for a wash and look from below.

All looked good and as expected as best we could see originally laying on our backs. Ryan come bye and was pleased to see the underside where he will be welding the three piece rockers in. Quick pressure wash and on the trailer for the 7 mile ride across town.

Em is sad to see Crusher go away, but thrilled to know some metal is about to be laid down.

You can fix that rust repair without removing the windows, but only if you are a pro.
