Going down to bare metal to do a complete renovation on my 1972 Wolfsburg-production (November 1971) Super Beetle. I'm going with the metal dash (padded dash fell apart) & have questions about replacing the black plastic dash knobs with earlier-year ivory knobs. I'm replacing the black plastic steering wheel with the ivory steering wheel used until 1971, so the entire electrical harness is being replaced which maybe gives us an opportunity to change switches, etc., to fit the knobs I want. I know the knobs for metal dash are shorter. I was just told by a vendor that the '72 fresh air knobs have square bases, the headlight knob screws in & so does the flasher knob, which also has a built-in ground contact. Also that a headlight knob for a 68-74 Ghia will work for the glovebox. I see ivory knobs in 4mm and 5mm, but there's no mention of square bases or ground contacts. I think someone on TheSamba told me a few years ago that 1967 knobs will work, but can't find that note. I'd appreciate hearing about your experiences with this. Thanks! |

When I collected parts for this modification, I used T3 knobs because they are shorter but I never saw any late model ivory knobs. Mine were all black. _________________ '69 Beetle (pieces)
