Hi all.

Engine looks like a stock 1.9 with Digijet. If not, please advise.

Throttle body likely has the later style switch.

Did the later style switch get used on pre 1985 Vanagons? Engine shown is in a Sinka (single cab).

Thanks

Neil.

Late 85 Digiject used the single switch like 86+ Digifant.

Thanks Mark.

This Sinka is in Canada, has an automatic transmission (likely uncommon) but is missing title so I'm looking for clues. Seems it's likely an '85

Hey 'Nut- That doesn't look like an automatic in that picture. You can't see the slotted hole above the torque converter, there is no dipstick tube, and the throttle cable is not right.

It doesn't have the proper throttle body connection for an auto trans. It should be a rod with a spring, not a cable:

Edit: Beaten to it! Very Happy

You can see the clutch slave bracket bolted in place.

Oh man. Am I embarrassed. Embarassed

Vanagon is listed as "automatic" no images of cab interior shown so I made an assumption.

I wondered about the throttle cable arrangement, which made me wonder if the TB had been replaced, job was unfinished.

I need more carrots.

Pictures that don't match the item for sale are the hallmark of a scam ad...

the pics look to me like they all "match" and the ad seems legit to me. The seller and I have emailed about it.

I made an incorrect assumption about the transmission type based, in part, upon ad description. Here's the ad

https://vancouver.craigslist.org/van/cto/d/burnaby-vw-truck/7228779853.html

Not sure how this Sinka would get used, given the missing "title" but I'd hope it gets resurrected. Someone must've felt it was worth saving. They started body work on it. From what I can see, body seems like it might not have too much rust.

I got a clean aircooled Vanagon (non runner) complete and assembled a few years back for $500. $6000 sounds like an awful lot for a huge pile of pieces that needs assembly.

I agree. 6000 CAD is too high even for a Sinka in that condition.

And to boot, the front seats are missing. I know they're hard to find.

many ads default to (automatic)
it's likely the seller just didn't change the trans type to standard
fwiw the drivers front seat would be the same as a regular vanagon. and it's possible that the pass seat could be used as a single seat inlieu of the pass front double.

anyways. @ $6k cdn for a project with missing parts and paperwork
one would have to really really want the specific vehicle.

Thanks Dan.

Yes, was thinking a regular seat would fit at driver side. The panel Vanagon I parted out had a bench seat. IIRC, it basically cantilevered out toward driver side. i.e. there was nothing special or different about where each seat mounts. And that would make sense from a manufacturing standpoint. Ah. Yes:

Picture above did have the bench seat from the factory and fitting a normal seat was no issue, slid right in. However, the back to bench seat was secured (bolted) to the back wall of the sinka. In fact, if you look closely behind the seat you can still see one of the brackets still in place.

Sinka's are cool and useful but I agree that $6K is a little much for a shell without a working engine/transmission. Cool think about sinka/dokas is there is a lot more room vertically in the engine bay to fit all sorts of different engine swaps without running into clearance issues. Or, if you are really looking for a project, you could make it a mid engine sinka, there is a lot of room in that belly compartment.

Thanks for that info and pic old_man.

Yes, true to form, IF i got into a Sinka, I'd likely put a VW inline in the back. But, depending on the future of fossil fuelled vehicles, and this is just a loosely formed theory of sorts, having a Vanagon that might qualify for "collector" plates may be of use someday. In that case, I'm pretty sure one would have to keep the OE 1.9 (at least here in BC, afaik) Alternatively, it might prove to be useful to me as an actual truck.

As are many, I'm restricted to "essential travel" only right now so I can't really justify a trip to the "big smoke" to go look at that Sinka.

Neil.
