All excellent links, Lind.
Jon's pix of that reduction box rebuild are first rate.
Better than 99% of books and manuals out there.
I hope he gives this photo treatment to other bus repairs. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS

thanks!
i'm working to finish up that sequence of pics out to the drum, and some text as well, but the bus still isn't back from the body shop, so i have nothing to install it into.
i'm also working on pics of a few other things. any suggestions for future pictured repairs? _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

Thing with link pins is that unless you have access to a press they can be a bitch to do. Plus it takes a special tool to press them apart. _________________ Anthony

That is one reason I appreciated Jon's redux. box pix. It let me know exactly what tools I would need to do the portion of the job I need to do.
For the front end, the same would apply. _________________ Founder and Chairman Emeritus, ECMSAS

Bus link pin bushings don't need a press. You just need some round stock the same size and beat them out. _________________ ---

Are you sure that it's o.k. to pound out the link pins? Like, it won't damage anything? And once they're out how do the go back in? _________________ Cool runnins,

I don't think My 67 has threads. I changed my mirrow a couple of years ago and I don't recal threads. But if there is threads: if at least a small amount of the pin is sticking out, try hacksawing a groove in one end so you can use a screwdriver or impack on it, reefing on it with Visegrips at the same time may help. If not maybe you can drive a small chisel in one end a use it to turn out the pin, or use the groove it forms (it's a long shot this will work). Even better, drill and easyout the pin. and if all else fails, just drill the damn thing out. use lots of penetrate what ever you do. Hopefully someone else will make it clear if there are threads in there or not. If not you just need to bang the pin out. _________________ Cool runnins,

hey, I just took both mine out of a real rusty truck. I took " pb blaster " a great pentrating spray and let it soak for about 5 minutes then started wiggiling them loose and then just worked them both out . the pb blaster works, you may have to tap on them to get them started. it didi take a lot of back and forth wiggiling but they will come out. hope this helps . |

I accidently tried to restore my bus speedo before I read this post and I wiped the face with a wet cloth and it wiped off 60 and 70 mph. The link says Im screwed, does anyone know how I could fix this? What does the factory use to put these numbers on?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. _________________ Looking for white cabinets for a '61 camper

Split Bus Steering Box Seal Replacement.
i just uploaded 10 pics to the gallery, step by step, of replacing the steering box shaft seal while the steering box is still in the vehicle. search "hazetguy" or "Bus Steering Box Seal Replacement" and you should be able to find them. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

Anybody know the gear ratio in a stock '67 Westy tranny? I want to remove the reduction boxes and go with a straight axle but I'm not sure if the stock tranny is worthy of good highway speeds.
Thanks for the help!!!!!! |
