New Westy owner
About to install F45 Awning
The steel Go Westy brackets look like prone to rust
Has anyone had this happen?
Thinking of having them powder coated prior to install
Appreciate input
Thanks

I bought Van Cafe/RMW's Fiamma brackets... wider base and pre-coated

(The ancient Trans-Awn in the photo is getting replaced with an F45S. I used the Fiamma brackets last year to replace the 30-year-old wimpy Trans-Awn brackets; decided last week's BBB campout was this awning's last trip.)

Welcome!

AFAIK, GW has only offered brackets in brushed stainless or already powder coated, so you
should be good to go. Otherwise, contact GW or we could be more help if you post up a pic...???

Mine are black powder coated...

Stainless is non-ferrous metal. (The very low quality stainless excepted, I have some rusty stainless items!)

Like aluminum, copper, bronze, etc...... a magnet will not stick to it.

Great looking van!
Don't forget to rustproof any holes you drill into the van for the screws to keep the brackets tight.
What I did on mine (using the RMW brackets) was to mount the brackets and then remove and treat the screw holes. First by cleaning and painting, allowing that to cure, and then remounting the brackets using some silicone on the screw to prevent any water from entering the body.
(unlike the GW instructions, I just used a stainless sheetmetal screw and not the larger rivet-nut solution, has held tight for many years of rough road travels)
