there has been an amount of water leaking into the Westy. it has been pooling at the base of the seam between the two side windows on the driver's side.

after some reviewing the location and the exterior, i believe the culprit is cracked seam sealer. i ordered the 3M clear 5oz squeeze tube - $28.00 for 5oz, this better work!

I thought you had retired with the cold and the rain!

Good to see you plugging away at it!

Clear seam sealer is a good call.
Even if for now you're simply stopping leaks and not going for rust remediation.

I used 3M 08405 it was a good product.

i went with the 3M 08302 since the 08405 comes in a caulk tube and what i don't use will be wasted.

this is a stop gap measure against the leaking. the rust remediation will have to wait a few seasons... spreading the projects out so i have some things to tackle in the next pandemic.

the rear hatch card is rather broken. i know, let's fix it with duct tape! the card is past it and i'll order a replacement at some future point.

I just installed a vangaroo. If the front of that hatch card is as bad as the back, I am willing to donate mine to the cause. Let me know.

Love seeing you make progress. I am in awe, really.

thank you. this is "rewarding" and i could not do this without the experiences and expertise shared in this forum.

i will accept that donation and in the near future when we can tip back a beer and talk about our love of all things Vanagon i'll pick it up.

last year we went to Washington State for vacation and i came back with a Vanagon cover i picked up from 2dog1van in the Karma section. i'll deploy that to keep the water from getting in since it's going to rain almost every day until i get the seam sealer delivered.

it's amazing how little money i've spent so far, mostly on paint, cleaning products with the high dollar items being the skylight kit, hookup kit, and a bench grinder. the bulk of this has been cleaning and refreshing. the real fun is still to come... the heater box, the brakes, and the engine.

i have held off on some larger purchases but as this pandemic winds down the orders will be placed. i really want to take the Westy on a road trip this fall to New England.

We have a house on the Long Island Sound in CT. We can meet up when she's roadworthy.

Or you could try popsicle sticks and wood glue with a cover of grey duct tape like I just did. Worked fine:

Another quick repair is using a Hot Glue Gun, pushing the hot thin glue into cracks with a putty knife before it hardens up.
Add really thin sheet metal pieces ( think galvanized ductwork metal thin), as a bridge over weak areas like the other poster did with the popsicle sticks

6 tons of 2A Modified. not quite finished, but real close. the plan is to park the two Vanagons side by side, facing the stockade fence. i have to build up the ground between the pad and the fence and along the other short side. i plan to plant flowers and hostas. it should look nice when it's all done.

yeah, super sharp, no pressure applied and the adhesive was peeling off... i made sure to put down cardboard in case i dropped the chisel. it cleaned up very well. this Westy will look nice, eventually.

You might want to get a few dozen pieces of rebar about 2' long and drive them into the ground in those cinderblock holes (on the inside edge) to help immobilize the block against movement from pressure of the vehicles' weight on the gravel behind them. Just a thought. You might be surprised how that stuff can shift.
