pulled the front brakes apart today and applied the lube to the pad contact points in the carrier and the caliper. hope this fixes the high pitch noise.

apparently Destructo can't hear it so he said there was no issue Smile

As you get older those high pitched noises go away all on their own.

Oh yeah! That's true.

But the noises you can hear?! They are worrisome!

But I was never good at that hearing thing.
The US Army found it worrisome and 4F'd me for it.
Totally missed out on the free trips to .Vietnam!

i was finally able to stop the high pitched noise by removing the anti-noise device from the pads. they are held on by three tabs and no matter how tight i made them fit by bending the tabs, the devices would become loose and vibrate at speed causing the noise.

i have run the Westy at highway speed with no noise after removing the devices. do yourself a favor and ditch them and use a brake pad lubricant like Syl-Glyde instead.

instead of dropping lots of money on new square headlights that work, i decided to go a different route...

picked up a set of "budget" LED headlights. if they last 4 years, whatever i replace them with will be way better.

looking pretty good, but man i need to paint the grills and bumper cover... and that nose, oh man that needs some love.

i love projects that i can do in 30 minutes. now i need it to get dark so i can adjust the lights and go for a drive.

i'm fortunate that i was able to get the grill and buckets from some nearby Vanagon folks. the project was around $160 compared to close to $500 for replacement squares.

Hell yeah, man! Looks great. Those lights will last years, no problem. My only issue with them is the plastic isn't the highest quality, and while durable to rock chips, they will get some surface scratches. However, the 3M headlight polish kit puts them right back to brand new. However, maybe if you aren't rallycrossing your van and scraping gritty mud off your lights constantly it won't be an issue.

Painting that nose section is a 30 minute project too. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be better! You know this. Remove windshield wipers, give it a quick sand down, wipe it, and tape it off. Prime it and paint it with some color matched touch up paint. Might as well hit the windshield wipers with SEM trim black while they're off. Incremental improvement > analysis paralysis.

How's the light output at night? Can you get it adjusted properly? IME, even adjusted properly on a low car they can be kind of annoying to be in front of. But I plan on doing the same as you, regardless.

i just did this during my lunch break, i'll know more this evening Smile

as for the nose job, i'm trying to decide if a $30.00 12 oz rattle can of LP5Z will be enough. i have the paint for the grill and bumper cover, the wiper arms, yeah, they need some love too.

Vanagons.

i’d like to say it was a quick swap but it wasn’t. the a/c lines are jerks. i probably should have put the regulator cover back on, doh.

I'm headed to Jersey Tomorrow.

My guy mixed me a quart for my Van and the color match was dead nuts on!

The quart without Hardener wasn't cheap, but it keeps. If I recall it was $168 or so.

More than a rattle can but if you want me to I'll pick up a qt for you tomorrow.
Text me before noon if you do........

We can fog that over with my HVLP someday.
