I've been scouring around here and there in search of information on my current
engine serial #. I haven't been able to locate it. It begins with an "H".
Currently seized and sitting in a '66 13 window bus.

Any help would be great thanks.

H case would have been a 1493cc (1500) originally.

lots of numbers there. I did find "H5" listed as a ghia engine from '69

I think an H Case is an H Case not sure. H5 numbers show up here on the Samba above under Technical/Vin/Chassis Numbers/Giha in 1968. It still could be a VW dealership installed factory engine for your bus. Found this Thread: H engines cases 1968 soft metal?.

Thank you. I also found the "H5" here. Just discovered an "H" series engine in this list http://www.clubvw.org.au/vwengines
which would match with the '66 Bus I have.

H5 is listed in the Beetle VIN listing as 1968 Beetle:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/bugchassisdating.php

It's with M-code M157, which is some sort of emission control system

Your engine # is from August, 1967.

Everett,

Thanks, just what i was looking for. Guess I don't have to concern myself with rebuilding the engine now, since it's not a number matching engine.
