So I am finally ready to take the buggy out but need some suggestions on steering wheels. It has a 1974 column, small shaft, and I need to find out what spacer/adaptor to use. I have decided on a thirteen inch wheel and don't know how much dish is required to clear turn signal stalk. With everything going on in the world I can't get out to see what others have used for comparison. The wheel I have has nine holes for mounting.
Any help would be great!

Nine holes would be a Formuling France wheel.

Does it look like this???

If it's a Formuling wheel, you'll need the specific Formuling to VW adapter - at least if you want a plug & play install.
Here's another common Formuling wheel style:

There's another wheel with 9-hole mounting similar to a Formuling, but slightly different bolt-circle dimension - Volante S9. Not sure if they're available in a 13" version?

A lot of boats were offered with Formuling wheels, and several (performance boat) manufacturers offer steering adapters made for this wheel - although these are made to work with a boat steering system which is considerably different from automotive steering columns.

I used a Grant 13 inch wheel and adapter... Don't remember model of wheel or adapter because build was so long ago...

Back when I was hoarding parts I had 5 Formuling wheels and a bunch of adapters.

Two of which were 14 inch NOS in original packaging. I sold them in 2012 to fund my engine build.
One of the few things I made money on in my life....... Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Wink

They are really hard to find now....especially the VW adapter and a good horn kit.

Horn buttons are tough to find for those.
