Front blinkers: The housings are quite corroded which reduces the amount of bulb light reflected frontwards. You can remove the lens, cut some kitchen aluminum foil to the shape of the housing, and use spray glue or contact cement to attach the dull side of the foil to the housing so that the shiny side faces forward.
Bumper: You can reduce the visual "bulkiness" of the fat chick bumper by gluing a 3/4" wide stripe of black marine tape to the center groove. This black tape visually separates the height of the bumper, and is simple to do. Just wipe the groove with thinner first to remove any dirt on it. You can use black electrical tape, but that is too elastic so that it'll soon shrink back from the edges. If you have electrical tape at home, you can try it for a "quick and dirty" impression so see if you like that look. |

I think the lights are bright enough, almost to bright.
But I will try some tape across the bumper just to see what it looks like, if I like it I'll just mask n paint it.

I've used a dab of hot glue - just a tiny dot - to hold it while it takes a set over time. _________________ 71 Squareback-FI -- 73 Bay (subaru powered)

Decided to take a shot at making some interior panels for the pig.
This thing came with zero as far as interior goes so I've gotta start from scratch.
Figured I can start with the hardest parts first.
Still not sure what direction to go as far as material to cover them with but I kinda got an idea in mind, if the raw panels come out ok I'll go hunting for it. |

Raw panels look good so far. If you want to keep them simple, how about sourcing some black vinyl from a local upholstery supply store or a car/marine interior shop? Not necessarily completely smooth vinyl, but having some minor streaks in it. Add some thin padding for the surface such as 1/4" thick foam, then glue the vinyl on, wrap the material around the back with an 1/2" to 3/4" overlap and staple it to panels. I'm sure there are some easy DIY videos on YouTube for homemade automotive door panels. If not black, then a color to match your seats.
Instead of the pleated map pocket which I'd think is not easy to make, you can attach a plastic storage tray near the bottom with screws from the back, and paint it using vinyl paint to match the panel color. |

Thanks Rome, the assembly part seems pretty straight forward and no worries there.
Im gonna stay away from the typical black vinyl and was thinking of a plaid material, kinda like a Pendleton interior . . LOL.
If I can find a good color pattern to go with the mishmash I already have going it should work out.
Black, tan, yellow, white mix would be awesome. |

Plaid- well you certainly are straying from "simple black"! How about looking at some 1970's VW baywindow camper plaid material? I don't think that there's a pattern that has all of your intended colors, but at least a few could be there. |

Why not go to Joann fabrics and get something you like, like some Fido Dido material? Or something fun and different like that. Especially since you're doing your own panels. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Or maybe some hello kitty prints . . LOL
There's quite a few places near me, I'm sure I'll find something I like. |

Finally got back to work on the square today, got the panels fit in for the rear seat area
Had to pull out the back seats and discovered some big cracks in rhe body.
I guessing where the sub frame bolts on . . . UGH.
is this a typical problem with type 3s or is this really bad news for me????
Both sides look pretty bad.

Time for the welder to come out. |

After a test run with a yard of the plaid material I decided to keep it simple and went with plain old tan vynal.
It would've been a real pain keeping the lines straight on the plaid.
This old leather belt should make some nice pull straps too.
