The van didn’t make it to bend this year but we still went and I won a small car south Tacoma grill for my van in a raffle. Been collecting some headlights and got some brackets to make it all work. Expensive mod if you are to shell out for the 600$ grille this whole project would probably be well over 1500$ for dual headlight setup.

I was barely fitting into my garage with my previous setup but did have to cut the top opening of my garage to get the van to fit inside now. You know how you fit your garage around you cars right?
I got the upper ball joints installed tonight. Couple more items to cross off before Bend trip.

Got the wheels and springs installed. One spacer pad in the rear to offset the weight of the Subaru engine conversion
Before height:
Gained nearly 3” in the rear because I think those springs were very very tired. The shocks are still kyb gr-2’s but I plan to get the fox shocks that gowesty offers to bring the suspension up to date. I plan to also replace my upper ball joints in the next week or so before we head to Descend. _________________ 1967 Bug:

Got some 16” wheels with 215/65/16r Falken Wildpeak a/t tires on them. Also going to install the Gowesty 1.5” lift springs and install a couple 1/2” spacers in the rear to level out the van as she currently is squatting due to the heavier Subaru engine. Will post pics of before and after once I get it all swapped over soon _________________ 1967 Bug:

Been a very busy summer so haven’t had a ton of chances to take Berty out camping. But I still daily drive her to work.
Couple shots from our 3rd Annual Van Campout we do in the spring

Enjoyed your post and updates. Out of curiosity do you have AC hooked up and working? |
We dont. Just cut the AC lines behind the front tire and removed the lines running to the back of the bus. It sure would be nice to get a system setup and put in. The stock air system is already a little wacky, I suspect this summer I will have to pull the dash and replace the foam around the vents as the vanagon basically doesnt stop blowing hot air regardless of the climate control settings, we usually just set it to our feet and lower all the windows, i think replacing the seals will solve that issue _________________ 1967 Bug:

Didn’t want my turn signals to have leaking housings and rust out so I bought new ones. Much brighter. I replaced my side reflectors with new ones as well. Going to do new taillights this spring when I rebuild the harness for the brake lights.
Just waiting under cover for the time being. I start it up and let it warm up every one or two weeks. Nice enough lately I took it for a spin the other day. This spring I need to do an tranny fluid change.

Man! What an absolute weapon this thing is! Had zero issues mechanically all summer. But there are some things I do need to fix. My coolant warning light has flashed at me all summer so I need to figure out how to bleed the darn thing. My drivers side front brake caliper is seized on one side and so it squeaks. And I lost my brake lights, which I suspect is to do with my harness that I redid while the engine swap was happening. But first let’s recap.
Daily drive the van everyday this summer. What a rad rig it is. Had plenty of time to iron out any issues before our descend on bend trip. Wife wanted to make curtains incase we were close to anyone at the event.
Ready to hit the road!

Lots of summer driving and the bugs and dust add up. Had to get the window washer system working again. Got an aluminum plate/ mount for the bottle and threw a new pump into the tank. We are good to go again and have working window juicer now.
Washed it for the first time all summer today as well

Putting some paddle boards to the test now that summer is in full swing
Melon head:
Fields of gold
Been daily driving this thing a lot. Anyone ever have their heat basically run non stop? I think my vents are a bit out of sorts. Its like the shutoff vents are not sealing. Going to look into that as we are gonna head to Bend for Descend later this summer and would like to not suffer for hours endlessly.
Let the good times roll! _________________ 1967 Bug:

You could probably see the third order band if you look closely under those condition. Note the way the colors reverse ones on order to celebrate diversity _________________ .ssS! |
