Another weekend, another trip out enjoying the sun. Thinking we want to get an awning cuz we got roasted this weekend and some people needed an escape from the heat. No coyotes keeping us awake this trip!

Ordered some stove conversion part and an ARB awning. I stopped working on this thing cuz I’ve been having too much fun taking it on trips!

Cool

Got this trailer hitch for my birthday. Already a classic:

Heading to work I blew two gallons of coolant into the interior of the van because the bleed valve for the rear heater cracked. That was a fun mess.

Cool

Resealed the injectors this week, general engine cleanup, I work with wires all day and have become OCD with wire routing, what was VW thinking when they ran wires for these things.

Got a big trip planned this weekend. 800 miles so say a VW prayer for me.

Van stuff was on the back burner through August and September, we got a house, so we have been preoccupied. However, while at goodwill yesterday, I found a box of click flooring for 7$!!! Score, this was in my long term plans to do but since it was so cheap and I have my garage and tools out I knocked it out quick Cool

Put a wooden steering wheel on Betty, from the guys at Slaughter House Customs in the UK. Snow is upon us, and after a summer season “enjoying” the van in her purity. Spent more time working on it than enjoying it. I think it’s time I went the Subaru swap route. Will source an engine locally and go with the RMW conversion kit. Figures to keep me busy for the winter

Got into it today. Tore out the 1.9. It will be for sale, fun to learn how they fit these things in there. Gonna be nice to have more room and tidy bay with a 2.5 inside.

Been working on the engine bay a bit to prepare for the Subaru engine swap. Only a couple weeks away from tearing into the Subaru end of things. Already have the donor car.

Plenty of time in the bay:

Still waiting on my harness from RMW. They said about 5 weeks about 8 weeks ago, but good thing because I still am tinkering away on this thing between all of life’s things.

Got the fuel lines ran with the OEM Subaru filter and firewall mount. I still need to get some grommets so I can use the holes in the firewall to run the lines through.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

All the heater coolant lines have been run, just waiting on a bit of coolant pipe to come in and the coolant system will be complete. I deleted the “t’s” that ran the heater lines to the rear seat heater. I will go with a diesel heater some day and utilize that vent with the diesel heater. That is a cool project I have planned going forward which I haven’t seen anyone do.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Been extra hard the last couple days to work on this thing as a big heat wave has taken over the PNW.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

At this point it’s very close to just waiting on the harness. Should be filling it up with coolant and oil any day now.

This has been a fun project and taught me a lot. Lots of little things is what slows you down. I bet I could do a second conversion in a couple of full days if I had all the proper parts on hand when I began. Most of my delays have been taking it one step at a time and only ordering the next part I need instead of ordering a lot of it at once. I’m enjoying it though!
