This car is REALLY frustrating me with what all is missing. Just discovered that the rubber ring that secures the speedo is missing and I don't have any. pondering a couple wraps with duct tape. Any better ideas? _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.

Take speedometer with you to Ace Hardware or plumbing store, and see what big-diameter O-ring will fit.
I just did similar with my B2200 distributor as such seal is not available new. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. like this?

I think drain pipe gaskets are made with a similar shape. _________________ cars:

Do you have time to order one. I believe the one I got locally from Averys Aircooled was from WCM. Maybe Wolfsburg.
Edit: my ring was for a 74 std beetle. Sounds like you might be dealing with a Super? Edit: Duh, it’s in the title _________________ Keep on Busin'

If it's the right diameter, it will stretch and hold that way...It's just an idea, I'm just thinking out loud, iirc the original is about a half-inch wide, with ridges, and split.
It seems someone is making repros, but I'd try a lot of things before I'd pay for a little strip of rubber...but I'm a cheapskate. |

Put in a WTB ad for a collar, or a broken speedo with a good collar. Place the ad in the Samba Classifieds, Parts Type 1 Bug 1968 and Up.

Go to Walmart and buy a roll of thin rubber weather stripping (it is selfstick foam rubber) and trim a piece to fit. |

It always up my confidence in a vendor to see them listing a replacement part that the car never had.
"100 mm tachometer seal for Beetle 1303 "
Tachometer in a 1303? Did I miss something? Oh well, at least the part's available. _________________ "Just $99 down and $64 a month for 36 months buys you a brand new Volkswagen Beetle!"

Might have been a translation screw-up: in French (Mechatehnic is French), a speedometer is called a "tachygraphe". Probably some lazy tranlator never bothered to look it up, and they sound alike, so.... |

that's likely an automatic translation, I usually use that site in its native French. _________________ cars:

The 1303 speedo is 120mm, not 100mm. I know because I have the same issue as the OP. _________________ '74 1303S, L98B Viperngrun (extra glitter), German Look

You can try the Porsche 911 rubber ring 115 mm, think this will work.
Porsche part number 911.641.903.00

Black duct tape - narrowed a little and I think about 5 layers. With the lower panel removed, it can still be pulled out. Nice and snug with the panel in place. Thanks all and sorry for not posting my solution _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.

I thought there was a supplier for these. Wolfsburg west? Otherwise, weather stripping sounds good. You need to keep the moisture content out. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

Cocaine? C'mon, man that's not cool. It's meth.
Just joking, my brain works like that too, sometimes....
My only concern with duct tape vs. rubber is that the rubber is probably there to absorb some vibration? But then again, the 1300's speedo is bolted down, so?

Moisture? This just holds the speedo in place. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.
