So started to install new canvas I acquired from Bus Depot yesterday. I have a 1984 Vanagon Westy but it actually used screws vs. staples on top. Installing canvas without removing poptop. (I ordered screw version canvas)
After finishing top I realized that I had managed to install aluminum tacks on wrong side of tent.... Definitely was a little tight in back corners by hinges, but overall I believe I was able to get it installed well with welding under aluminum tracks.
So my question is whether or not anyone else has installed their tent with top tracks on inside? Were there any long term issues encountered. Rain in forecast all week, but I intend to start on bottom and see if a re-do of top is going to be entirely necessary.
Also wanted to leave a nugget for future folks that encounter rusted screws that broke off on removal of top tracks without any help. I was able to just drill holes next to original hole through track and fiberglass “platform”. When I searched for help on issue only thing I found was to drill out broken screws and fill with fiberglass. |
