Thanks - best to separate the body and chassis to do the work?

If the channel condition is like mine was and you are a relatively handy average Joe, the effort should be about 100 actual work hours and $1400... for one side. The second side should be less in time and cost. Now you can decide if driving in a cool head turner that wont taco on itself is worth that Laughing

I decided to do the 2"x3"x1/4" heater cannel replacement
It took me about 30hrs to do the jobs and around $650 in materials.
I used the available outter rocker skin, lower front and rear quarter panel skins, 2 KlassicFab bus inner rocker, 1/2"x1/2"x18ga square tube and the 2x3x1/4 square tube.

I'm sorry to say that just based on what I've read here in the Ghia forum over the past decade and a half, if that's the rust you can see then most likely the rust that you can't see (until you begin cutting the body open) is roughly 10X that much.

I doubt if the rockers are the only area on your Ghia that will require rust repairs.
If, however, that is indeed the case then consider yourself lucky.

Thanks - yes there is definitely more rust - the other side is almost as bad.

Toss up if I can make it work financially - I'm going to have a good look this weekend - if not I'll just part it out.... its a '74 so not as much value as an earlier model.

The later models may never be worth as much as the earlier ones, but it seems as though Karmann Ghia values in general may finally be on he rise.

If values go the way of other early model Volkswagens and Porsches, eventually even the rusty ones (and aren't almost all of them rusty to one degree or another at this point) will be sought after.

yes - I did get this pretty cheap - it has a motor and transmission - just a matter of opportunity cost - do I do this or buy a less intensive project... could get it running and sell-on ...
