My boss has a 2003 Anniversary edition Corvette with 8000 miles on it. I have no idea why you would have a car and not drive it.

I know landlords so awash in cash that would be happy to rent a toy like that. It is still 1/2 the price of mortgages and rents in many areas these days. I'm not at all surprised at the ad ( on TV I assume). The Boomers hold most of the money, 60 million plus are retiring, they still watch TV, and its only a 3 year toy ( the lease terminates just before they do).

Lease a car, rent an apartment, buy everything with a credit card. Own nothing.
No wonder most people don't have $500 in the bank?

And of course the now ever present rollover/junk bond/subprime loan market.
I know if I was rolling over a car payment into a new car, I’d at least want to go out in style.
I know a guy who sold his house and lives in a new sprinter, interesting economy makes for strange bedfellows

Its not the money you earn, its the money you save that leads to a secure life.
I never earned a lot of money, but I saved a fortune one dollar at a time.
I don't owe anyone a dime. That is a good feeling.

That makes a lot of sense.....using cash is foolish. Between cash back and other perks it makes great sense to dump everything onto a credit card.

My 25 year old son (works at a private banking firm) does everything on credit cards. He is heading out to LA for the NBA playoffs in May and his hotel and airfare was paid for by credit card points

On the contrary, using credit cards is foolish. Banks make money off of each and every transaction, usually on both sides of the transaction when you use a credit card. Credit cards have allowed the bank to glean money off of EVERY transaction. Those "rewards" aren't free, they come out of the vendors pocket which in turn requires them to increase the price to cover their expenses & to make profit. This is why you are much more likely to be able to negotiate a price when paying cash.

When paying with cash, you are also less likely to overspend as handing over cash triggers pain receptors in the brain whereas swiping a card does not.

Well.. i've had a credit cars since 1976 and never paid a pennies interest. I get 2% back which adds up to real money over the year.

And while you are correct that vendors raise their prices to cover the cost, that is already baked in. So unless they offer a cash discount, paying with cash means your paying the higher price with not kickback from the credit card company.

Using a credit card also gives to protection against fraud and complaints.

I purchased a couch for $2700 and had problem with it. After spending 3 months trying to resolve them the business stopped talking to me. I complained to my credit card company and they held up future payments. Suddenly the store contacted me and we negotiated a 50% refund.

If I used cash I would have had to take them to small claims court.

I am sorry but you can't "negotiate a price" when you are paying your cable bill, or your electric bill, or a gas purchase, or a purchase at a restaurant, or at a grocery store, or an online purchase, or at the mall for clothes (I could go on and on).

I don't care if a bank makes money from the person I am purchasing something from.

The rewards are indeed free to me. If I have a no fee card and pay off the entire balance at month end, then any reward I get is free to me.

And if you are fiscally weak minded then yes....a credit card might not be in your best interest. I might suggest having a parent hold your money and dole it out in that instance.

I use my card almost exclusively and I have zero balance. My 25 year old son has had a credit card since high school and he has never carried a balance. Its really not a challenge to be fiscally responsible.

I own 4 cars and the newest of the lot is a 2000 Toyota. My 1996 T100 has 137K miles on it and it's now my daily driver since I had to stop driving my 356's so much. But I could never see leasing a car for that kind of coin. Shocked

Me too. I have only had one loan in my life, for a house, and I worked like crazy and paid it off early, debt free is the way to go!

New cars are a huge waste of money. Every car I own has appreciated since I got it. New cars depreciate at a fantastic rate, thats not for me.

one of my sisters friends many years ago bought a new car using her credit card! my sister asked what the car cost, and her friend did not know, she only knew the minimum monthly payment amount. She had to return that car some time later for a substantial loss.
Not the brightest thing to do for sure, but she did enjoy that new car smell as she was going deeper in to debt every month.

We use a single credit card and all expenses go on the card including utilities, healthcare, food, fuel. you name it. We even bought a car once using it. 4% cash back, also gives 4 cents off gasoline. The card gets paid off 100% every month, been doing this nearly 4 decades no fees.

So much easier and safer not carrying money around like my grandpa did. Try renting a car or booking a hotel with cash.

yup, credit card purchases can be challenged, that saved me a ton of money when a dishonest vendor sold me some junk steering gear parts for my truck, I got a full refund from the credit card company.

My credit account is set up for autopay of the full amounts, so I never miss a payment and thus worry not about late fees nor interest.
I generally get 2% cash back, I get a nice monthly itemized list of my purchases too.

One of my cards is offering a 15% cash back for three months on groceries and gasoline, yippie! The limits is 120 bucks cash back per month with this promotion, I have used it to stock up on my virus grocery supllies. I like the cash back. I appreciate the suckers who do not pay off their cards in full each month, as they are the ones financing my cash back.

win win for me.

Kinda makes you feel sorry for the schleps still running around paying cash huh?
We got a few fossils here that write checks for everything. I think checking account went out of fashion in the 1990s😀
