you asked for pictures - I've got pictures
after removing the seats and remains of the carpets, and hoovering out 30 years of accumulated rat shit, it doesn't look too bad at all. Gave it it's first wash in 30 years too, even though the paint is all coming off.
Doesn't look too bad. As far as I can see easily, the worst is behind the passenger door. I can get a new panel for this so if that's all there is, should be ok. Just hope there isn't too much rust beside it when I cut it out
someone has had a go at leading the car. Pretty sure you aren't supposed to just fill rust holes with the stuff though. Can I get this as a panel or cut?
and these are the seats with those awful covers removed to reveal the original trim. It's past it, but even worn out it is still better than the covers it came with
well that's the first week's work. If this is to become a build thread is it still the right forum location for it? |

Looking at the seat colour, I certain the car colour is pacific blue.
I would recommend you gave the car dipped or soda blaster sop you know what you have under the paint. |

so for that lower body rust repair, is that generally something that needs body off, or can it be done on the chassis? Not hugely bothered either way, but would be good to know before I get started |

Just to add to this discussion, I have just received a 60 model in for complete restoration. Before Bead blasting we found some traces of dark blue and I assumed it was Sea Blue. When we received the "Certificate for the delivery status", it states L362 Midnight Blue. with Green /Grey Interior. Manufactured 03.06.1960. and delivered to Melbourne 09.06.1960. M108 Custom model.
We found the colour behind the Ash tray facia. when I get a chance I will send a copy of the Certificate

not much going in in the last couple of weeks. TBH I've been staring at the car a bit overwhelmed with the amount of work that needs to be done.
Decided to start eating the elephant one small bit at a time. Front indicators cleaned, polished and new seals made. Even the simplest jobs are never that easy really are they? One of the housings was quite corroded internally, and the insulator board for the bulb terminal was floppy so had to make a new one of those too out of some old circuit board with the copper sanded off

the next 'simple' job is the door cards. I've done this before on other cars using Masonite. thought I'd try thin ply this time. Even though the trim is in pretty poor condition I think it is salvageable. Even just a good scrub up with soapy water works wonders.
more later. |

Pacific is a great color - you also have an ice blue steering wheel which would be correct for that color. Wonder if your roof was originally white? You could always do a little stripping to find out....your door cards turned out great! I have the same interior and was able to rehab the pockets by running new elastic through them. _________________ RIP HBB (1984-2009)

you have just got to love other people's repairs.
sanding back the bog and I realise why the headlamp bucket isn't coming out. Looks like it has be brazed in. if the fender looks good when all the bog is off I guess we just cut the bucket out?
Don't know who previously cut these holes
but at leas it gives me advance warning of the work to come
it's not actually too bad from what I can see. Heater channel looks ok and the outer skin is okay, so it's just the inner over the fuel line.
small jobs give the illusion of progress. The vinyl is rotten at the bottom so there isn't much more I can do. The chrome strips are missing from the door cards, but the previous owner had some wood trim over the bottom which I quite like so I reckon I'll keep that for the moment
still lots of bites left to eat the whole elephant but it's a start. |

As they say, "There's always duct tape!".
More specifically, Aqua Colored Duct Tape ...

feels like I have been working on this all of the Easter break, but it doesn't really look like I've achieved much.
body trolley fabricated and all bar one of the body bolts removed. One of the hidden ones at the rear was jammed so I had to cut it and I haven't even tried the other side yet
engine out finally, but the bottom nuts were complete bastards. Couldn't fit a socket and breaker bar in so had to soak in penetrant and be patient until the spanner could shift it. Whoever said 'just lift up the back of the car and the engine will slide out' is lying. Had to remove the fan shroud and carb/manifold to even get close to be able to get it out.

removed the floor insulation today
unsurprisingly, rust in the hollows where it wasn't stuck down. I don't know if this is original or not, as there is white foamy stuff as well as some bitumen, but it surely reminds us to stick it solidly down all over.
there was a lot of rusty dust, but it does seem to be mainly surface rust. I'll see when I clean it up properly, but hopefully the front pans are good
not so much the rears
there was some crappy fibreglass all over this. I could see the perforations from underneath so it wasn't a surprise. The majority is sound, but it is perforated in a couple of areas. Again I'll check when it is fully cleaned up, but I'm hoping these are ok to patch
I guess it could have been a lot, lot, worse so I'm not too unhappy with that lot
Question on the drain holes under the rear seat. Are they there from factory? really? don't they just let road water in? Surely there's not actually anything to drain? |
