… what a nice original car - leave it alone or restore it? Saw this beauty (1950 11A?), in a gallery and finally, saw my favorite split ever - would want a windshield and a set of 16 inch smoothies though... otherwise - perfect.
Whattaya' think?

Reminds me of those old Italian towns where they take their mummified dead out of the catacombs one day a year. Shocked

Without seeing the rest it is hard to say whether is is even worth being restored. From what I see it is extremely rusty on the lower half and looks very rusty on the upper part too. The hood would be pretty hard to fix and the door is pretty far gone.

It is pretty cool as it sits but you would have be insane to drive that thing on the road. It is most likely extremely structurally compromised .

… no, no, no why ruin it - a restoration would ruin it - just like the nicest, of the 3 DCs, we ever owned - we are very lucky, here on Oklahoma, USA with no government agency inspecting our deformed vehicles - just hafta' have a windshield.

Fix it enough so you can drive it in the rain without you or your luggage getting wet and I'd be happy with it.

This thing is too far gone for me. I don't see anything cool about it. Don't get me wrong, I love splits and certain amounts of patina can look good but this is a rolling wreck.

make it safe if it isn't already, and legal. Does anything else really matter? Id rather see it rotting away on the road then rotting away in someone's backyard.

Nonono...there is no restoring that car.... unless you call dumping the whole thing i a giant tub of rust converter then you could call it “restored” or “preserved”. The real questions are A- how the fuck is that thing still moving Laughing B- why the fuck is it still moving lol. I just feel bad for the car. I mean, what the hell happened to it? It looks like the bottom of my damn charcoal grill. However, i will say that that car has a lot of character. Alls i would do is plop in another headlight, make it legal and suggested, and drive it down back roads.

EDIT- OH... I know what happened. It must of been is the middle of being crushed right before some crazy ass vw nut job came running up the the crain operator creaming “I’ll give you 400 bucks!!! Just dont scrap it!” And thats the story of the 400 dollar split.

The car appears to have a roll cage so I suspect there is a solid pan from another car under the body.

I seriously doubt the body is restorable so a rustrod probably is the best thing to do with it. It was probably a field car that was returning to the earth.

Even with a solid pan and a roll cage that thing is a death trap and I would definitely not drive it on the road. You certainly could not legally drive it on the road in England and in many states of the US due to their inspection rules.

The site has a Netherlands domain so I would assume that's where the car is located.

When you consider this is what happened to a pretty solid split when hit by a dumbass in a Tesla, there is no way you would get me in that rust bucket on the road.

… this "rolling wreck" is so cool to me that I have it as my computer background - can't get enough of it - takes a long time 2 make one look this far-gone - that's the beauty of it...
