Hello All, I’m in hopes that someone could help me understand my chassis number on my bug pan.
M1CH 70 243 (This all I can read in my pan) anyone have an idea?

That is not an original chassis number stamp. Can you provide some history of this car/chassis? Was it wrecked? Is it salvage? How long have you had it? Where was it last registered?

That is not a vw stamp, but a restamp, possible by the DMV at some point. All it is gonna be is an id number for your title/registration, it wont tell you much about the car. In your picture you can a good portion of the factory VIN (larger stamped numbers with the bolt in the middle), you can probably use those to id the year of the pan from them _________________ Pres. Maybe M1CH is MICH and the MI DMV may be able to search for you. As I said in a PM, do not spend a dime until you establish it's not stolen! |

Polish where the factory vin is... mirror finish. Then use a acid etch to raise the numbers. Used to do it all the time with old guns. |
