Hi. This engine is in a Bug I'm looking at, can anyone identify what it is?

That's what I'm thinking too, but why does it appear to be aluminum and have the Porsche crest cast in it?

Because the PO put them on, including the aftermarket fan shroud and distributor.

Ha - an oil bath filter with a pleated air filter stuck on end. That's high performance.

Ha! 000.721.711.05 sticker is from a Boxster scissor jack.

Location of fuel pump, difinitely VW.
