Hello Vanagoners-
I have a '68 bay. A guy is trying to sell this tent:
He says it's from his '77 bay which he bought new, then sold without the test.
But the bay guys on The Samba are saying it's a Vanagon tent. Any confirmation of that? _________________ '56 Bug - no name yet

Anyone have any idea what this tent might be worth? _________________ '56 Bug - no name yet

That sure looks like a Vanagon tent but the color sure looks like a bay scheme, I have seen them used with Bays and Splitties and Vanagons..... I almost bought a nearly new one(used 2x) when I was in Santa Fe a couple years ago for $400. It is a heavy beast and takes up a lot of room. Once I saw it in person, I decided against it due to the weight and cargo considerations.
Here are some others for sale for your guidance

Ditto. The seller states: "Bought new in Westfalia, Germany in 1977". No reason to really doubt that claim. I'd guess the seller bought said tent in Westfalia when he picked up his 1977 Bus at the Westfalia factory, drove the Bus around Germany for awhile then shipped the Bus and tent back to the States. The tent ended up not being used much, was packed away in the garage, Bus was sold, decades later the garage is getting cleaned out and a discovery is made... up for sale it goes. Plausible theory in my book.
Here's another one that was for sale awhile back, but without the psychedelic version of the curtain (and, yes, attached to a Vanagon):
The tent was probably a new offering by Westfalia in the late '70s (to replace the tired "circus tent"), which then carried over to the early '80s. By the mid-'80s, Westfalia changed the tents a bit:
And there's this one:
^Was for sale for $625(!)
Hold up... just did a German Google search and guess what I found?
http://www.quoka.de/wohnmobile-wagen/wohnwagen/c9483a115727306/westfalia-vorzelt-f-womo-mit.html
Google translation of the ad:
"Price: 450, - EUR Negotiable
Location: D-81679 Munich Bogenhausen
Original Retro Westfalia awning from the 70s for vehicles with rain gutter very good condition! Tent has been properly cleaned. Both side windows u Einhang additionally have a fly net. Tent floor is secured by suspenders clips provided therefor tab bar inside the tent. With this substance is shown to be tinkered for any blackout curtains, the wind catching a bag of nails u. Construction time together without tension 5 minutes! Mass detached: WxDxH 300x190x220. Hooked on the bus coming into the depths again to 30 cm. Tent can be picked up in Ismaning near Munich."
So, there you go. A German even says it's from the '70s. And as Zesty said, $400-500 seems to be the going rate for the genuine Westfalia side tents. _________________ ~Kamz

Just fell over this old post ... 100% original baywindow westy tent. I have a one owner 1977 westy and exactly that tent come with it.
Does anybody know, what theses tents go for these days? I am considering selling mine. I have had my westy for 15 years now and have only used it once for a weekend. Maybe somebody else can make better use of it ... _________________ Westfalia Helsinki 6/77

I’d post your inquiry in the Bay Window van forum - maybe that will yield more answers. No idea on value, and I think location may play a big role.
I’ve got a somewhat similar Vanagon tent I need to dig out, photograph and put for sale. Has similar paint color scheme...maybe it’s a Bay Window tent as well. Made in France, no Westfalia logo. Has flowered curtains too! _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"
