Noticed today when cleaning engine bay that the right side of the engine cover plate appears loose and can be pressed down to see road/inside rear valance etc
The left side is fixed / fastened.
There doesn’t seem to be any obvious hole/s where a bolt has come out.

Any ideas on what to look. Is the right side always loose as it’s not something I am knowledgeable on.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Photo attached.

Cheers
Michael

Hi. Thks for the reply.

To be clearer the loose piece is the black flat horizontal tin ware plate at base of engine bay...that sits between the rear valance and the engine.

Hope that makes more sense.

Let me know.

if the flat rear engine tin, could be missing the welded on bracket so cannot be secured

Thanks for reply. I’m taking some additional photos of the exact area so will post photos. I’m wondering how a rebuilt engine from Andy Prill would have a bracket missing but perhaps it detached somehow.
Anyone once the photos are posted I would really welcome your opinion. Many thanks again.

That piece should fasten near the flywheel end of the tin look for the hole there from the inside of engine compartment by #3 sparkplug.

You may have corrected the gap that you mentioned by now, but the bolt to the right of your index finger is used to secure a bracket from underneath the tin. The bracket was secured to the original factory muffler system. So, if the muffler had been changed to headers (for example) there is nothing to prop up the tin. Look under the rear of the car to see what I'm describing. If that is the case you will have to engineer another solution to close the gap.
