Reinstalled safaris with threaded nutplate. After the crash, new safari mounting holes were slightly off so some new holes were needed. Window was a little off with some daylight showing through when closed and latched. Since the daddybus was crunched in the front at Blackstar 2019, I decided to go the full monty and install a threaded plate. Anthony Jr helped out almost just like the first time safaris were installed. Screws on either end lock the plate in place and are covered by two layers of friction tape (holes marked in silver.) I used #6-32 stainless machine screws which allowed for plenty of side/side adjustment and can be enlarged/retapped to #8 or #10 if the threads get buggered out in the future. Now properly aligned and no more light showing through when closed.
Here is Jr helping with the first safari install...where did the time go? He'll be able to drive the bus next year.

Last Saturday I drove to the grocery store and purposely added a few miles of cruising to get the liquids flowing. As I approached a four-way four-lane stop sign there was the designated panhandler ready for money on the inside island I was approaching. I keep change to give them but since he didn't have a mask on I was hesitant to interact with him. I played the "didn't see you" game but he still leaned toward me and said, "You wanna sell it?"
I had to laugh.
The same Saturday grocery shopping trip in the very parking spot I use at that grocery store in La Mesa, California is where the news crew filmed the massive looting and bank burnings that began shortly after I left. |

I've watched them all. Outstanding detail, and practical suggestions. I thought some of the things you were doing during the videos were hacky and short-cuts, but you either explained why they were done, or they turned out quite nice.
Looking forward to the Ruthmann restore! _________________ 1973 Standard Beetle - running maintenance thread - https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=675712&highlight=
