I recently acquired a 1984 Vanagon Dehlr Profi Camper and am in need of some minor pieces such as cabinet door latches & interior light. I'm also looking for info on what kind of covering the cabinet doors and misc interior trim had. I'm assuming it was vinyl but has been peeled off.
This van spent the last 10 plus years parked in a driveway under big pine trees and was being used as a storage shed. It was filthy and the contents of the inside filled our garbage dumpster!
Overall it's a pretty cool Vanagon with it's high roof, opening roof hatch, folding luggage rack out back, body cladding and bubble windows.
All that said I'm not sure if I should keep it as my shop continues to be very busy and I really dont have time to take on another project. My 90 Vanagon shop van has been laid up since Christmas waiting for its GoWesty 2300 engine, '58 Opel needs a master cylinder etc etc.
It's an 84 so has the 1.9L, automatic trans, is complete except the rear bumper is missing as it has a heavy steel bumper / trailer hitch combo. It's got the Dehlr refrigerator, slide out stove, furnace, sink, water tank, upper bed ladder etc. I'm trying to get the large cabinet open to see if it has the shower.
Thus far we have changed the oil, topped up the fluids and got it running and lot driving but havent gone beyond that as it has no brakes.
Next step is a damn good cleaning outside to get all the tree sap and crud off and in interior shampoo and get rid of all the rodent presents as the engine lid was off they made a comfy home.
So there you have it, if we had any shows this year I might be inclined to do a sympathetic clean up and enjoy it a little but with the Coronavirus having everything cancelled this far I'm on the fence if I should keep, sell, restore or ?
Im pretty sure these were never officially imported by either VW or Dehlr and I cant find any info so if anyone has any info or parts sources for interior trim / Dehlr stuff please forward.
Stay well! DrD

Very cool.
I was told that a guy brought in 6 or 8 of these at the same time, all of them 1984s.
Almost bought one of them about 10 years ago from a guy who is well known in the vw/samba community.
Such cool vans.
Kinda wish I was in a position to make an offer on it.
Good luck whatever you decide to do with it.

Is there a roof lift or tilt that I'm seeing on Top, or is it a Skylight assembly?

In most of the driver compartment the skylight is the roof, not much storage there.

There is a very small space overhead that runs from about the back of the front seats forward 1/2 the way of what every other high top has.
Dehler put a tiny little tv up in there.

Not very practical of course, but it felt different for sure.

They also had strange high drivers seats that seemed to deteriorate rapidly.

Along it's side is a funny molding that you'd never be able to replace if it was ever damaged, and dual pane glass from what I could tell.
I've only seen two of these and they both had either cracking or delamination, in areas of that glass.

Was that one from Karl? I was giving it some thought as well but had already bought a Westy.

Yeah, but it had (to me anyway) horrible rust.
I'm a rust wimp, and it had spots you could put your finger through, so I had to let it go.

That ribbed molding is actually full panels that go all the way up to the roof. It continues around back onto the hatch door too. The bubble windows are attached to it from the outside except the rear window there is a plain smoked cover on the inside I imagine so the rear wiper would still function.

Yeah, it's all of that white area that goes from beneath the door handle to the top of the door, from what I remember.
Does that look like fiberglass?
Not being a guy who has worked with glass much I wondered what I would do about a broken section, but I don't think I've ever actually seen a broken section.
Just one of those things that floats around in the head....

Always wanted a dehler.

If your other van is sound, Pull the engine form the Dehler untill you get your GW and put it in the dead van.

Always admired how much functionality they stuffed in the interior.

Does your have the bath shower unit? I’d love to see pictures. Someday I’d like to buy a unit to re-mfr.

Cool ride.

...I hope this helps you in some way. Also, if you part it out, would you be willing to send the roof to Germany? Asking for a friend....

Wow great pics. With a decent German engine Id imagine this could fetcha pretty penny. The interior moldings are very cool. Almost looks warm and cozy in there despite the outside weather.

DrDarby you have any inside pics of your rig? People are taking to the outsides like no tomorrow right now. All through the west there are great numbers of people hiking, biking, camping, walking. Independent activities outside. Ive had two people walking my neighborhood ask where they can get a camper like mine in the last three weeks.

If yours looks at all like that one. You have a very unique van for this continent.
