Does anyone have a left-over/scrap piece of the red AircraftSpruce hose/duct?
I want to run it on my Ghia - but my leftovers from my Type 3 are only enough for ONE side Willing to pay....
Only need about 10-12"
It works great BTW _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia |

If one isnt running any heat but just a header would I simply block off the openings from the fan housing? As it has nowhere to go? _________________ 71 westfalia

Yes , cap or plug the ends, usually in the plumbing isle at your local hardware store. |
Yup. Or a beer can bottom and a hose clamp for those of us who are cheap. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

OKType3 Tim, As per the photo below, how much clearance is there BEHIND the orange flex hose, between that and the silver exhaust pipe right behind it ? Where the red arrows point (roughly !!).
I was playing with mine today and my flex hose seems to be actually touching the exhaust pipe at that point, which wouldn't really work, I fear.
May have to go with BobNotches idea of getting a piece of pipe made up somehow.
Hmmmmm

you could always use some header wrap on the exhaust tubes, the vintage speed muffler actually comes wrapped in that area _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/jim_martin_engine_build.php

Yes, it just barely touches at a single point of contact. ( I can almost get a piece of paper to slide between the hose and the header pipe.) The hose is not close enough to see any deformation of the hose.
Yes, I was concerned about this, but checked with some of the other individuals who have posted this solution previously. They reported that they had not experienced any degradation of the hose. The top end of the operational temperature range for this hose is 500 deg F.

But also yes, to having a custom metal duct fabricated. I also considered this approach. I went with the hose first as the quickest and lowest cost to start. _________________ '69 Squareback restoration
