What is the Ampco bottle that attaches to the base of the carb? I've never seen that before

Ampco Top End Oiler.
You add a light oil like Marvel Mystery Oil. It injects a mist of oil into the intake. It's supposed to help lubricate the top end of the heads and pistons.
Not sure if it does anything other than add a neat vintage vibe _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

Um, holy crap...the example pic of of the VW kit on Ampco's website is this exact 69 Ghia. Look at the battery kill switch. Definitely the same car

Thank you to everyone for all the good vibes and the details on the Ampco oiler. That's so cool that Ampco has a picture of my 69 in their photo gallery. Thank you Era Vulgaris for posting it! |

What are the chances that Betty ( previous owner of John Moxon's lowlight) and Lea ( previous owner of my 69) knew one another or waved at one another as they drove by? Marina Green and Presidio Heights is 2.5 miles apart, they both drove black Karmann Ghias and lived in that same area of San Francisco at the same time. Hmm. |

What a beauty! Such low mileage and to have great historical documentation as well. Hopefully it will go to another great caretaker. I love the interior. Original door panels are just beautiful. Would love to see my 68 Regatta parked along side this car so I hope it comes to New England. _________________ Marc

You remember that smart kid in high school that completely blew the grade curve apart?
This car will potentially do that for Ghia market values as well as buyer expectations.
Excellent example.
Lisa, would you care to say why you chose BAT vs Barret-Jackson vs Mecum vs Sotheby's vs anything else? Just curious. _________________ Jason Hamilton

Hi Jason! I actually hadn't given it too much thought to take it to an auction such as Barret-Jackson. I do know that with those types of auctions there are fees up front and at the end of auction. There are a lot of expenses to get a car to an auction, such as transport of the car, airline tickets, rental car, hotel, etc. There's also a lot of time involved with being out of town for an in person auction.
BaT is pretty convenient because you can do everything from your home and the fees for BaT are so much lower for both the seller and the buyer. It still takes quite a bit of work to get a car approved and listed on BaT. It also takes another week of your time to be available to answer questions, post additional pictures, etc. I think that being involved in ones auction is a key factor in having a good end result. |

I don't normally like custom interiors, but that one does look good.
But the chrome tins are not my thing. And the trans gearing is not doing the engine any favors, IMO. I don't know why people are so scared of rpms. Engines are made to spin, and they have an easier time doing the work they need to do when they're spinning faster. _________________ Currently own:
