Factory 1963 is like looking at my wife's mirror compact.
Is the 65-67 bigger? Is the 1967 unique and in what way?
Anything even bigger with a day/night switch that looks vintage?

In my opinion the small hatch window on a 63 non deluxe is the limiting factor. Even with a bigger mirror you're just getting a better view of your interior. _________________ 1987 Syncro Westfalia powered by Subaru

It doesn't help with the size problem, but they make these day/night flip things that mount on your mirror. You may have to zoom in a bit.

5-panel wink mirror. you could make a piece of smoked plexi to flip down over it at night. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

I use a boat mirror held up by rare-earth magnets. The view eliminates blind spots. You can see where I stuck it in image below. Be sure to get plastic lightweight kind to reduce potential impact force.

Not really. I have corner windows so that helps.
So..no difference between the earlier and the later 65-67 mirrors? _________________ '63 German Walk-Thru Deluxe 15-window - SOLD |

1967 only mirror have a different shaped base post, not really sure if the mirror head is any or much larger (never parked two side-by-side to check that). Original 1967 only interior mirrors are very hard to find available for sale. Pictures of my '67 are below. It looks like the mirror head is a little bigger?

Mirror head is a Day/Night unit from a VW Dasher. It is black plastic like a late '67 bus mirror. I made the mounting bracket. Some day I may redo the bracket for a cleaner look. It is larger than the stock mirror and I can seeside-to-side/wall-to-wall across the back. |

Drive a panel bus with a bulkhead divider and only a driver's side round head mirror- for one week. It will prepare you for a life of never needing to rely on an interior mirror again. _________________

I happen to have both of them. The 67 and the earlier version. The mounting holes line up and the shape and size of the mirror appear to be the same. The mounting arm of the 67 is definitivley a beauty compared to the predecessor...
I personally never had an issue with the size - I don’t tend to use it as a make-up mirror though
edit: top is 67 only, lower is from Feb. 65 to end of 66

Not a mirror, but I stuck one of those Fresnel lenses on my back window and I can see a really wide area behind the bus. It's pretty handy.
Can be removed easily for shows, etc if you think it's goofy looking:
This is through the rear-view mirror, looks much better in person:

I don't have a problem with the stock center view mirror in my 61 15 window.
I did add a drivers side sideview mirror. The bus did not come with side mirrors from factory. It does not have a right side side mirror.
I can turn my head and look to the right before changing lanes. The fishbowl effect with all those windows is pretty nice fro visibility.
Well, I once almost changed lanes into a Mazda miata. It was so short I could not see it below the windows.
They should have had a flag on a pole for visibility.

Through 64 post is centered:
About 65 the mirror was larger. The post is offset where it attaches to the mirror.
The 67 has a swoopier base/ post, but is same size as 65-66. |
