I've disassembled everything for my pop top restoration. It seems that the original scissor mechanism hardware was just galvanized metal. Unfortunately, mine is rusted and pitted, has paint overspray, etc.

I'd like to do some rust prevention and then paint it, but what color? Just flat gray, metallic, nickel? Any suggestions?

Can you get yours re-galvanized?
I was restoring, I would want it to look like original.

from gallery, pics I took:

Eastwood makes a lot different spray can paints to mimic the color of metal.

Here is one option:

If you check their website, you might find a direct galvanize replication. Also, depending on where you live, you might find a plating shop that can dip it for you.

I ended up finding some gray/silver epoxy appliance paint at the local hardware store. Turned out pretty good. Will wear on some of the moving parts, but I think anything else would also. Replaced everything with stainless hardware while I was at it.

I like it. The one on the right looks pretty decent too.
