About painting the logo in the hubcaps Jeff - it is really simple.
Just spray over the logo (no masking needed) directly on the chrome
After 5-10 minutes you take some thinner on a cloth and wrap it around
a sanding block and simply buff over the logo.
The thinner will take away all the paint except in the logo.
Done it many times myself and it´s very easy.

Good luck!

Sounds like a great technique, thanks.

My Ghia was built in March of 1956. Here is what I found was painted body color:

Gas tank
Front Gas tank pair of hold downs, not rear
Inspect cover plates
Luggage tar board liner
Hug cap logos

And now:

Front mounting bolts
Front mounting plates

Must have been something to keep track of these separately painted parts.

Collecting some of the chrome parts together to understand how large the home equity loan needs to be for the repairs/plating.

This March of 56 Ghia still has its one piece bumpers and closed back overriders. I picked up a send one piece rear bumper so I have 6 guards. 2 are pretty rough. All 4 corners are different. I will look to the bumper repair place to make the best of the bunch. Just sheet metal.

Shock lock plate.

I didn't realize the early cars used locking plates for the front shock bolts/nuts.

The beam and trailing arm are notched for the lock. Always learning.

My shocks were the originals in black front and brown back. Looks like cast ends for the rubber

Part 111413415

I believe this part is the same, easier to find about $15 to $20 each.

Shock Absorber Plate - Porsche (644-343-581-00)

The original shock at Boge with VW logo on the top part of the shock.

TP27-162 Front
TP27-163 Rear

I did find the VW part number on the bottom of the shock

Front 111.413.031G
Rear 111.513.031D

Updated: friend had a NOS rear set we made a deal on!

Went through all of the boxes to gather up the chrome and aluminum to see if I can get it refinished.

I have all of the hardware to take too.

Many of my original outside trim pieces had the billet section put in and then cut to fit. Also, my back luggage spears were peened over on the rear facing point. Must have been running low on trim.

I am doing about 6 extra pieces for spares of if I have to make some custom ends. I had a machine shop make new billet fillers, the shape is like a Christmas tree.

The trim rings are all dated 2/56 and 3/56 as the Ghia has a March of 56 Build date.

I have been saving pieces for year, about 6 parts are NOS, I'll report in when done.

Some of the chrome pieces missing in the pictures I have NOS and will not send out for plating.

I hope you have better luck with your window trims than I did on getting them rechromed. My chromer actually brazed wires to them in two spots I guess to hang them in order to dip them. When I got them back the brazing lumps were still there and impossibly to clear out from the channel. The pieces were also distorted from being prepped.
When those C trims get distorted they are near impossible to get shaped back to conform to the windows and if you can’t do that they won’t stay in the rubber.
Some things to mention to the chromer…

Thanks for chroming ideas.

Here we have the brakes and wheels back on!

I was short a few brakes lines. I must have used them on the Alken

I had to strip and rebuild the slave cylinders. After 30 years the packaging grease dried out. Likely need to clean the master too

This is an early emblem. It is actually mounted with studs welded on and nuts.

56 cars did not have gaskets under them either. Two round drain holes

Not sure I have the accelerator bolt?

111721529A

Looks to have a date code of 23.41.1

Can anyone read date codes.

Interested in these JeffL. Ive found a few over the years and at least 2 of them have prongs and the threaded part is on the base. I didnt take the one off my car to look. Its the only one w/ original base IIRC. Pretty sure they are all legit. Pics

I replaced the clutch cable. Good thing, at 65k miles it ways frayed where it comes out of the pan.

I tied a nylon string on to pull the new one in.

I tied the string just below the swaged threaded boss for pulling power. Then I used some shrink tubing to center the string on the bolt. I did feed the cable from the front access panel and pulled it through. Went pretty well for doing it by myself.

Finished the brakes.

I had all NOS German wheel cylinders and master (from 20 years ago so who knows how old). I was able to clean and use the wheel cylinders but the master I had to rebuild. I had a few ATE kits. Seems like the spring got weak over time. Manual says not to use over 3 months old without complete inspection...... I see why.

Take the time and clean the dried lubricant. Entire new system works great now.

Used Dot 5 what a mess taking everything apart a few times.

All brakes working fine, had to shorten the rod for some reason to get the pedals in line.

Pulled the tarp off the engine. After 20 years it is pretty dirty. Has less than an hr on it. Not sure I will replace anything but will touch it up. Maybe get the plating shop to do the intake and heater boxes.

After some light weight oil in the plug holes and spinning with the starter for a while to assure lubrication, it fired right up. Sounds good even with this old 4 tip repro.

Parts should be available at the plater next Saturday. I can finish assembly and go for the body at the end of May. They have to do all of the removable panels.

I will glue on the body seal so we can drop the body right on. The manual talked about using guide pins when lowering the body and I will try that.

I have no idea. I got a WW Abarth so will let this one go. Has to be over 30 years old.

Test fitting all items to the engine. Have to get belts and jets. Lost them somewhere along the way.

Ran well with standard carb and coil setup.

Had to shave part of the bolt head off on the fan shroud as the Judson was up against it.

Carb brightwork is tarnished and some rust from all the years of storage. That's easy to straighten out later.
