Agreed. Find out what has to be done to be able to keep the car from getting a salvage title. My son's Honda Civic has been totaled out twice, and still has an original title and has full coverage insurance (lots of deer in his area). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Alright, the square is now at its new home for the next few months, cut the roof off the donor, sat morning and transported the car the three hours south to the new shop.
Looking forward to getting her back on the road.
We are just going to have the rest of the car done at the same time as well as the motor freshened up (upgraded)
Look forward to seeing the progress

They wanted to total one of my squares when it was damaged by the shipping company and pay me $2500. It was a 62 square. I told them to try and find me a replacement square at that price and led them to the Samba for reference. They ended up wanting to total it out at $4000 and salvage title. I told them to send me a check for $1 less than the total and I would take care of the one dollar myself to avoid the salvage title. _________________ Frank

Great idea.
Don't know if this argument will get the OP anywhere or not, but the carrier and only the carrier was at fault in damaging this pristine car. I fail to see how presenting the owner with a salvage title makes him whole, no matter how nice the car turns out, since now any sale will be at a steep loss due to the carrier's negligence alone. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! I totally agree. That is why I took a dollar less than the total. This avoided them salvaging the title on my square. _________________ Frank

Work has begun: we have decided to just go through with a full restoration
Oh and we have managed to keep the full title without salvage, that's a positive.

Wow is right..!
Hope they save ALL of that original interior stuff..
So many body shops are known for losing small pieces.
Also,
Whatever you do,
Don't think about putting in a "new" interior.
The stuff that's available from TMI (the only game in town) is so far from original it's not even funny.
I'll spare you the long list of things wrong with their stuff...
The original German door panels and little parts are so very precious,
And many will think they can just order replacements.
Luckily,
Their headliners aren't so bad..
Stoked to see this come out better than ever in the end. _________________ Bus Motor Build

While they have the roof skin off, get them to look at the rear lift gate hinge bushings and assorted bits.
Looks like they're going to do the repair right though. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Yes, Chris is pretty darn good at what he does; happy that he was able to take on the project. And I agree, perfect time to check on the rear lift gate mechanism.
Here is another progress pic: moved it on to roller wheels so the fuchs dont get damaged and prepping the A pillar tops for the replacement support.

Further progress on the roof, Chris isn't wasting any time: He found the difference from early to late roof, looks like the rear corner drains were in a different location; easy fix

The roof is done, really came out great: next the body is coming off and it all goes out to media blast. Coming along!
