I would like to thank those who responded to me about the two tone paint process. I got the Beetle in new clothes, and reassembling it now. Just thought I'd share a picture or 2 with everyone. I took the L54D Marina blue paint code, and made my own metallic pearl in the Marina blue. I used Ford Wimbledon white for the two tone, and matched the wheels and Jbug steel running boards.
The bug had some rust in the passenger quarter panel, that was cut out, welded new metal in. The owner broke the car because a tree had fallen on the roof and crushed it flat in several places. It now is round again, and hopefully stays away from trees ...
Thanks again...

Looks gorgeous. Well done. Now on to the all tedious jobs of reassembly without scratching the new paint. |

Well thank you all for the kind words...
This is probably VW sacrilegious, but here's a better Bird pic

What an amazing looking bug. I really like the pearlized paint. Looks vintage appropriate, and still stands out. _________________ Justin

Its gorgeous. How did you handle the door jams? |
There's a member on these forums that suggested several different ways to me. I was unaware that VW didn't produce a two tone painted car.
What I did was, painted up to the inside of the door seal, wrapping the paint around the edge of the door, on both the door and the body. |
