|
|
I have a Super Beetle 1302. Its fuel gauge shows wrong reading when its full level. I replaced the sending unit also. I calibrated old and new sending unit as 10 ohms and 70 ohms. I checked voltage regulator also and its output voltage is 6.2 V. It is Zener Diode type. The fuel gauge is original German VDO unit.
My questions are as follow.
1. How to check the resistance of the gauge. Please show me by a photo.
2. Is it compatible the regulator voltage 6.2V with original VDO fuel gauge ?
3. Where is the fault ? Voltage regulator or Fuel gauge.
I have attached the photos, the operation of fuel gauge with old sending unit and new unit at its full level. But it shows the needle of the fuel gauge is slightly beyond the half level for full tank.
Explain me please.

I had that same carb on my 1970 1600cc with dealer-added AC. Nothing special because of the AC unless you want to increase the idle about 200 rpm.
To me, it sounds like you have some troubles with your carb: fix that ! _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. Its butterfly and electric choke are not working and those are free way.
Otherwise please explain me correct carb. tune up settings with A/C at not working condition of butterfly choke.
Thanks |
Make sure your spark and timing are good, first. And i guess this all needs to be done with aircon on.
Then, make sure the choke is hot or held fully open. The cut-off valve needs to be open, hooked up to the electricity, of course.
You must make sure that, with the choke held fully open, the butterfly is completely closed. Unscrew the stop screw until there is no contact. then screw it in until you see the butterfly move. Then go back till it's closed, and make sure the arm isn't held back by the butterfly, but by the screw, to reduce wear at the throttle.
Now, unscrew the bypass so enough air allows your idle speed. Turn in the fuel screw, and see if rpm goes up or down. Play with the fuel screw until you get the fastest rpm.
Now play with the air bypass to get the rpm back down where you want it. Back and forth, fuel again, and air again, 'till you're there. |

It's helpful if you start a new thread with your different issue. I was very confused by all the replies about fuel/air/tuning regarding your fuel gauge. |
