Hello,

It’s time to change my fuel hoses. I installed the ones on the bus four years ago and driven about 7,000 miles. Per recommendations here I used Gates Barricade hoses and have run non-ethanol gasoline. (Except for the last few full ups).

I’m curios to see/learn how others have attached the fuel line to the 90* inlet on the bottom of the tank. You can see from the photo that I have two clamps. For whatever reason, when I installed just the fuel injection clamp, I got a little leakage at the inlet. But when I add the other circle clamp, there is no leakage - and it’s been dry for the past four years. (Maybe I have the clamp too tight.) If I recall correctly, there is no barb on the 90* inlet, plus I wonder why VW used this type of angled configuration?

As always, I’m grateful to learn from the collective wisdom here.

Thank You,

Jeff

You don’t need to change those hoses

Is that a carb tank? FI has an outlet and inlet.

If you are going to drain the tank and replace those, clean the screen. That said, that is a low pressure line and the Gates line will last a very long time.

The angled outlet is the aftermarket replacement version, the OG one pointed straight down and was shorter. I don't know why they weren't beaded, although none of the other fittings in the system were either. If it bugs you wrap a ring of solid copper wire around the pipe near the end and solder it on, instant bead (not while on the tank of course).
