I pulled the engine today and saw this. Wtf is going on here. Missing a part? Everything works, but I’d rather put the right part in.

I don't think anything is missing but the position of that arm doesn't look right to me.
Possibly someone added the Craftsman socket to take up a gap caused by an internal problem? |

@halfassinvanagonassasin did the work I think.
Anyone have any idea what internally would cause this to sit like that? |

stock engine/flywheel?
Slave cylinder looks like a newer aftermarket type? Issue there? Posts here of that possibility? I seem to recall that there was a fairly recent post about clutch slave travel.
Failing forks at clutch cross shaft?
Air in hydraulics?
It would be nearly impossible to install the operating lever indexed incorrectly.
The cross shaft bushings (outer) would have to be incredibly worn out to allow lever to sit further down, were that even possible.

I believe the thread you remember was about the wrong lever being installed. Two kinds out there that index differently.
Edit: 251 141 713 B for gas, 251 141 713 C for diesel. |

Thanks. That may well be. This may be the thread:

There's my socket. Wondered where it got to. Now I can stop wondering about where it went. _________________ ☮️ |

I don’t know what’s stock and what’s not (stock aircooled). Recommend taking the trans out and checking it out?
Ran fine when I was driving it around |

Ok. I'd wondered that if the engine was not stock and used an adaptor plate, (especially a home made plate), would that plate thickness affect distance of clutch pressure plate fingers to throw out bearing.

I think you’re missing the bolt that made up the distance between the socket and the plunger. And, yeah, I thought I might’ve been my missing socket too, but it’s not 10mm 😜😜😜
I’ve actually done this on a wearing clutch disk when I was 17. It lasted about a week before I was replaced it. I agree - tear it down now before you get stranded somewhere _________________ Sabata
