914 ignition switch quality comparison between off brand/genunie

I need to replace the ignition switch in the 914. This will be the third time in three years. I initially bought an off brand and it lasted about 18 months so I replaced it with the genuine Porsche part. The off brand was $8 and the Porsche brand was $40. The Porsche part has now failed after 18 months. Has anybody had the same results with the off brand??? Thanks.

the usual problem with the ignition switches is excessive play, which sometimes makes it hard to reach the crank position with the key, not going bad. maybe just bad luck
