If it helps, I have the SR0425N on a syncro with 6 cylinder Subaru , EG33 SVX. and this starter works great, best I've ever had on this engine.

Bringing up an old post here, does anyone know if you can use the SR0425N Bosch starter with the Boxeer engine? It's a CR TDI - EA288[/quote]

Van Cafe suggested that the 425x would work fine, but Greg at Boxeer says the 408x is the one you want due to higher 2kw output. But Ive heard they are both 1.8kw. The 425x is a much better fit and no mods to the diff lock if you have one. I ended up swapping the 425 for a 408. It was a real pain to install. Could not tell the difference in cranking speed. Both needed some grinding to fit the mounting nut on a syncro.

All are Gear Reduction starters. Mark

I agree. I put the small one in my Syncro too. Works great.

That starter likely fits the TDI starter adapter for a WBX bellhousing and flywheel. Probably not the best choice for a TDI engine. Also, Boxeer should be telling you what starter combination works with his adapter and flywheel combination. It could be very unique to just that setup.

I pulled my transaxle out to ship it out to Matt Steedle and as I was looking at my starter it seemed to have this shim in it that didnt look stock.

What am I looking at here?
