Actually a rich mixture is the easiest to light. A lean mixture is much harder to light because the fuel droplets are further apart.

A bigger gap doesn't lean out the mixture, the wider gap just makes a bigger spark that lights the mixture better.

From bone stock 6V ignitions to coil pack crank fire and pertronix ignition systems I've always set my plugs at .028
