|

I have a 63 sedan and the turn signal switch is turning on the steering column.
I tried to find some youtube videos on how to fix that but to no avail.
It is in the shop right now for some new spring plates but when I get it back I want to fix the turn signals.
They will work but the whole turn signal column (housing) and the lever slip around the steering column, maybe a 1/8 turn, before turning the signal on.
Is there some clamp inside of there or what should keep it from sliding around the steering column.
Thanks for any help ahead of time....Dave in Illinois....the land of no old VWs. |

There should be a slotted screw that tightens and holds the assembly in place. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

Once you confirm the screw:
1) Check for center on the steering box:
2) Then check for centering of the steering wheel on the column. If you skip this you can break things.
3) Set the gap between theswitch and steering wheel:

The screw is located as shown below, it threads into a clamping plate which is forced against the column tube to hold the switch assembly in place.

I think this answer will work for me ...... as soon as I get the bug back I will fix it.
I felt around there before but did not feel it so this time I will look closer.
Thanks to everyone for their help
