I’m about to embark on a new project with my mate Paul Irving of “Irv’s” in the North West of England - although I’m a Londoner I enjoyed doing the 54 Kombi with Irv and he did an amazing job though this project is going to be very different.

The Postbus was found in Germany, you can watch the story here; https://youtu.be/B-RLsLlrulE

Out of the ground and cleaned up, this is how it looked.

The PO then removed the red paint to get to this;

This was the state of play when I managed to buy it a few months ago.

Thanks to Martin at Revs we got it from Germany over to the UK.

Not only is Martin a great guy who does more annual mileage than a long haul pilot he takes tons of pictures which we all love of course.

So, here she sits ready to start the makeover ready for Hessich next year.

The Post Bus is next in line Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Irv got it on to the jig today, in his words ‘it sort of lined up’, yikes!

I guess I had better get started on the parts list. The biggest missing item is the engine. The bus is from October ‘54. It would be great to find something age appropriate. Any leads gratefully received.

The bus already had the sign writing removed when I purchased it so didn’t get a good look at it. In any event I think an original paint Deutsche Postbus is pretty special.

Got a lead on a motor yesterday thanks to Revs

Here is a nice picture of my bus whilst being used as a kids playhouse in Germany.

On the vintage pic, the signboard over the cargo doors says
'Glückliches Kleeblatt- Lucky clover'
maybe because there's 4 of them sweet girls ?

Good spotting! I believe it was one of those four girls that let the bus go to its new home. Would be lovely to drive it back there one day.

Thankfully Irv fixes cars better than he takes pictures of them.

The build up of the chassis has begun, I cannot believe how quickly this is all happening. Irv and the team obviously have a lot of experience and more importantly lots of references with (I am guessing) about 6 barn doors in the shop currently.

The goal like with some of the other builds ongoing is to preserve as much original metal and paint as possible. Though it is an 11 window it is a genuine Deutsche Postbus which as far as I can discern is a rare beast.

Some lovely original yellow

This next picture gives me hope - seeing pictures of flat packed buses is great online but I can tell you when you own one and you see it lying there on the ground as a bunch of rusty bent metal you begin to wonder where passion ends and madness begins.
