I hope it helps a little about the engine.
The "Centre de Réparation Automobile zone Sud": CRAS, was a repair workshop
from the french army in Friedrichhafen, Germany after WW2.
They repaired tanks and german vehicules for the french army. Cool

That’s great - what a story to add. The tag states 1967 so this engine saw some work in its past and will hopefully see a new lease of life after a rebuild. It is locked up so not sure what the internals are going to be like.

56 Samba - do you mean to say he has to replace cylinders heads etc as this is an industrial engine??? I would hope he can use the majority of it.

Great engine! That will gently polish out all nice and Patina’d. Those tags etc are great!

Looks a liiiiitle of place in what looks like a white Volvo interior!!

Haha! That’s a Panamera Turbo, my parts chaser Very Happy I think it’s fine for the grandson to act as a courier.

And you are sport on, even with the rebuild the engine will not be painted, just some sympathetic resurrection. I was planning to lose the tags but thanks to the info you guys have all just provided they will definitely stay!

Cheers

I’m disappointed in myself that I got that wrong!

This Postal Bus is coming together quickly and looking great.

Really looking forward to the 'after' photo of the long side when done.

It will be in good hands. A visit to the shop is always a great laugh too! I’m hoping to get up to see progress in the next week or two.

Cheers

Irv’s crew do a great resurrection job - they have a lot of reference material on hand which helps a lot.

Bit more work on the cab area today. Progress is fast at the moment, Irv must have a big Christmas list!

It’s great to see parts being added in - even if some are just there to check the fit.

I managed a visit up to see Irv and the team a week or so back. Lots of fettling going on which is not so exciting to photograph but essential work none the less.

It’s really coming along now as you’ll see from the pictures. The motor has gone off for a rebuild so will hopefully be ready around the same time the bodywork is finished.

It’s a real shame that HO21 has been postponed, we were really looking forward to the event.

I’m really pleased to have an almost whole bus once again, I must admit to having a real wobble half way through when it was just a pile of panels.

Or possibly let them rot or you’ll go bankrupt trying to save them!

Time for an end of year wrap up as the incoming emails seem to have slowed down. We are nearing the end of the metal work. From where we started, seeing pictures, to completely striping down to the bare chassis to the rebuild including 2/3 of a new roof was more work than I'd bargained for. I'm happy now though we are nearing the end and starting to think about paint, running gear and interior.

First off some of the finishing off of welds now everything fits properly.

The rear end view of a complete (well nearly) Barndoor!! There is a bit more work to do on the cargo doors but then the bulk of the welding is done.
