A short update on the Barndoor Postbus after a taking a backseat over the past couple of months.

The last bit of welding on the cargo doors was completed. They now fit well and are mostly original metal, which is no small miracle given the state they were in.

So finally the Postbus is done for welding.

The shot of the chassis to me is mind blowing. I was very tempted to get Irv just to clear coat it as it is a testament to a lot of metal working skill. Either that or Gersons retirement fund Very Happy

In any event the next pictures will be of painting. I just need to get on to the parts list and figuring out what we have and where it all is to get it put back together again.

Amazing work as always. This process of building a 'new bus' underneath an original shell (while saving as much original paint as possible) is becoming common place now. It really trivializes how much work it takes to get this done.

Bravo!

Thanks guys. Irv is the man.
Colour will be primer grey (in Raptor due to the European climate) and then maybe some yellow overspray.

Today the artwork of the chassis was given a coat of raptor in factory grey (or an approximation of) and then a touch of overspray.

That's so sick Applause Applause Applause Applause I wonder how that is explaining to the average person this is the perfectionist way that VW did it before. You gotta love early cars and they're history.

You and I and everyone here gets it but I had my truck done with no overspray so I wasn't constantly explaining it to people Laughing

great work done there!

I cant wait to see it in person someday!

I am not a big fan of that raptor, i had bad Experience with rust under that, but for sure another story when added on clean metal.

Someday i am good enough to start the work on my Post Barndoor.

Wow, thanks for the support guys. I’m not really one to worry too much about what others think, those that know, know.

Christian - crack on mate, we need a Postbus meeting!

Time for an update. Work halted due to local cases of Covid but thankfully everyone is now OK and emerging the other side.

We decided to turn the Postbus into a roller and have fitted a straight axle and a hogback beam. We deliberated for some time over whether or not to fit the stock running gear but it's all easily changeable.

Everything underneath is Raptor coated or painted. Up top what paint was salvageable was saved and things like the petrol tank and spare wheel tray have been clear coated.

But the offsets were all wrong as the Postbus sits pretty low and is not tubbed nor does it have short axles. So instead some banded stock wheels have been used and the result, I think anyway, is pretty amazing.

There is obviously a long way to go yet. I have a few options engine wise, from big type iv to the stock 30hp motor.

Interior wise I have the front and rear seats which I'll probably use for now. The plan is to use it for HO22 so a camping interior may need to go in at some point and I have something pretty special for that Very Happy
