Sold a 031 back in December, unfortunately he had an engine fire and sent the 031 to be fixed. Talk about crispy.

After chipping away the melted plastic from the condenser and points I took it apart. Surprisingly the internals still worked, the shaft spun and the advance operated. I let the parts soak in the parts washer for a few hours. I then cleaned and all the soot and burnt oil came off. There was no premanent damage to any of the metal parts. I replaced the usual parts during a rebuild and put it back together.

When done it's as good as new. It's a testament to the quality of Bosch distributors.

Thanks for that Glenn.

It seems there have been allot of distributor questions today.

Some don't get that a quality original distributor costs $$$.

Nice work Glenn. Maybe send the guy some free fuel line clamps with the re-rebuilt distributor Laughing

That's an odd number. Is it Type 4 or Porsche?

What cleaning solution do you use in your parts washer? That turned out fantastic!

I use various methods including Safety Klean, Simple Green, ultrasonic and a few different media if needed.
